Ain't Nobody Here

Meet my new girls - * bullying :-( *

Recommended Posts

Wasn't planning on getting new girls quite so soon, but once I'd erected the introduction accommodation (see below!) it seemed daft not to  . ES (home from Uni for the w/e) was very keen so I couldn't disappoint him, could I?

So, I'd like you to meet ...

Beth, Jess & Steph :D . I think they are a Black Rock (not sure if she's purebred or not - still working that out  ), a Blacktail (not Columbian though, think she's a Rhode Island hybrid?) and a Barred Rock. Any opinions from experts would be good :D .

Beth (named after ES's girlfriend - aw sweet  )

Jess (named after another friend of ES - can you see a pattern emerging  )

And this is my new introduction setup - better than splitting the WIR as they all have more room.

Thanks, all :D .

Steph is another of ES's friends  .

Not sure about the Black Rock :? . He said "Black Rock" when I phoned to ask what he had. I was a bit suspicious as I know there are only a few approved suppliers so I emailed Eddie Lovatt to check - he doesn't know him :? . When I went to collect them, I think he said she's a "Black Rock Rhode Island hybrid" (I might phone him tomorrow for confirmation).

Your new girls are lovely! :D

Steph (Black Rock) looks just like one of mine from Cotswold chickens. She is exactly the same colouring and we were told she was a Black Star. I guess some of them have different names depending on where they come from.

Good luck with the intros! :D

Check out the photo link on my signature - they're very like my original 3 girls, and my 2 newbies have more or less replaced the bovans nera and speckled star. My Ginger one is definitely a Rhode Star and she's always been a real sweetie (except to the newbies - she's really been exerting her authority recently!!!) and she looks like yours. They make a lovely looking trio colour wise, which is partly why I chose the original 3... :D Great mind think alike!!

Argh  . You're the first to comment that I'm cramming 6 into my WIR  . My logic is that Maisie is getting pretty elderly (although is still young at heart :) ), so if I'd only got 2 and she went, I'd then only have 4 and couldn't introduce just one. Also, I seem to have no layers at present (even Poppy hasn't laid for 4 days  ) so it would be nice to actually get some eggs again - more chance of that with 6 8):D .

They are lovely. Wise choice of colours  ( I'm working my way through every colour going  ).

I got my black rock ( now departed ) from the 'Swansea' pin on abwsco's map. She had less orange than yours and her black was solid black, but maybe yours will get darker as she gets older. Shouldn't think it matters anyway, she's still lovely. :D
