Meet my new girls - * bullying :-( *

Recommended Posts

Never mind what they are, they are all pretty girls and will hopefully get your egg supply up and running again. :D

I am itching to get some youngsters too, but I will wait until the spring, because I haven't really got room at the moment. I have 2 elderly ladies in my Eglu, both 3 1/2 + so I will wait until at least one of them leaves me, I think. I am resigning myself to an egg free winter this year.

Ukadex is good for deterring pecking - you spray it on the chicken that is being bullied and the smell and taste are so disgusting that the other chickens won't peck it....only make sure you're covered head to toe yourself in old clothes as if you get the spray on you it stinks!!!!! I used it on Ginger a few times, but she got wise and when she saw me coming with the yellow rubber gloves and waterproofs she tried to do a runner!!! :D

They didn't have purple spray or wound powder at the vets but I bought some Multiderm just till I can get to my horse supplies place where I hope I can get both.

Jess seems to leave Beth alone when they're freeranging but it's obviously when they're shut in the run that she pecks her. The wound doesn't look too bad - it's more like the feathers have been plucked rather than actual pecks to the flesh. I've cleaned it up and sprayed it but I'm a bit worried about tomorrow :? . I never thought I'd have to separate the new girls from each other :( .

One of my new girls got bullyed, I had to seperate her as she was bleeding. She ended up in one of the dog crates in the WIR with the old girls around her. Then one of the other new ones started to be pecked so she got moved into another dog crate in the WIR. Now both the pecked girls are in the WIR with the two old girls, they seem to be ok with them just keeping my fingers crossed.

I still have the other two new ones in the eglu and extended run, I am worried about putting them in with the others in the WIR in case they go for the other two new ones again.

Who said keeping chickens was easy :?
