Nigella Kitchen

Recommended Posts

I watched it on iplayer because it clashed with River Cottage Everyday.

I spent quiet moments leafing through Nigella's new book Kitchen at work yesterday when I was on reception. We have a few Book People books in there at the moment £12.99, but £16.99 on their website. The book it lovely and contains a lot of recipes which are right up my street, but I find watching Nigela a cringeworthy experience. What was all that making cheesecake in her black silky dressing gown all about :roll:

Even OH who loves Nigella's food found watching an uncomfortable experience last night. i think that I will buy the book, cook the food and leave the tv show alone.

We tend to treat it more as a comedy than a cookery show - we hoot with laughter at her & all the 'set-ups' each week.

She is turning in to a caricature of herself.

That said, the chicken looked wonderful & I have just spent a small fortune buying myriad fairy lights to scatter over every available surface in my kitchen :lol:

I have just finished watching, and I quite liked her recipes. Love her lights, as always. I would end up smashing them though if I had a pantry like hers with chilli lights on the shelves :roll: The pasta dish looked yum, as did the chicken and the cheesecake. The only one I'd change would be the shellfish one, as I don't really eat shellfish. The Thai soup looked amazing and just what I could have done with for lunch today. Might have to be tomorrow lunch :D

My only one gripe was for goodness sake camera person BACK OFF! I felt like I had to move to the other side of the room to see properly as everything was just too close :x

That's exactly how my OH felt. We both sat and  and  watching it last night. Not sure I will bother watching any more episodes, she's just too annoying now. Shame as I love most of her recipes. I'll probably just get the book again.

The cheesecake looked divine.

They had a few of her recipes in the YOU supliment in the Mail on Sunday near the beginning of September and I kept back the recipe for the cheesecake. Is VERY YUMMY but very filling. I watched her first episode (as there's hardly anything else on the TV lately worth watching) as I wanted to check that the cheesecake I did looked the same. Yup. Yum.

Nice food but I can't stand her though. I've tried but i hate the way she flirts to camera and 'just has to' sneak back to the fridge late at night for one last bite. Obviously not at all worried about the camera crew camping out in her kitchen then!

Get same feeling with that Nigel Slater too. Maybe it's a Nigel(la) thing!?

Having said that, will probably watch the next episode anyway.

I have to say, she irritates me. I've got a few of her books, ( bought one..then got a few as gifts) and find that a lot of her recipes don't always work out. Some do...I find all the coy " I'm a busy mum like you...I eat bacon sarnies, we all fall back on an M & S ready meal..." flirting sick- making. And yet I find myself watching, purely in order to moan at her. A curious addiction. A bit like how I have to listen to ANy Questions, then Any Answers.....purely to yell at the radio. Perhaps I should seek help!!

I said exactly those words last night.

You need a pair of pink boxing gloves to hang behind the kitchen door too Cinnamon. :D

I agree, I find her difficult to take her seriously. Who was it that did a parody of her? I can't remember for the life of me. It was hilarious.

Also found her very irritating last night - about how she is a busy working mother and makes puddings before she dashes out of the house in the morning. We all know she is married to a multi multi millionaire and I am sure she is not holding down a 9-5 job!

Had a couple of her books but I would agree that not all of her recipes work. Won't be watching again to hear about her "golden globules" of marmalade floating on a "pillowy bed of cream".

I'm sure her teenage children appreciate tomatoes being artfully draped over a cake stand - all I could think was more washing up!

I didn't think that slicing a shop bought cake, whisking some cream and sticking a few blackberries really qualified as making a pudding. And why make a song and dance and expect plaudits about doing it before going to work. It took 3 nanoseconds then, it would have taken 3 nanoseconds when she got home.

The trick with the gnocchi type thingies looked as if it might be worth trying.

I got her book yesterday, but haven't watched the programme, I watched Hugh instead, the firemen had him well wound up

I may watch on iplayer, but not if Ihave recently eaten.

She may not be size zero, but if she really raided the fridge in her silky night attire each night and ate huge slices of cheesecake etc, she would be huge, we real women are not fooled.
