Snowy
Poor Jazz (wasn't self inflicted by any chance? - my old retriever bashed his nose in against a brick wall through trying to take a corner too fast ) Will she be climbing the walls if she doesn't get her long runs? Could be a fun week for you then!

Guest
We had to take Jazz to the Vets tonight - she has cut a pad on her front paw and it wouldn't stop bleeding She is all bandaged up, antibiotics to take and we're £57 worse off I'm convinced my vet is the most expensive in the country. When I took Kelly last week, the bill was £70 for a consultation, an injection and antibiotics. In fact, looking at the bill the baytril injection cost £10 for 0.5ml, whilst the Baytril oral stuff I brought home cost £8.50 for 7ml. I'm really not sure how that works! I hope Jazz is feeling less sore now.

Lesley
Jazz is fine - raring to go...... We keep rolling the ball for her inside, but she wants outside ball games and a really good run She's eaten half the bandaging but the sore bit is still covered so that's good. She hobbles along in her plastic bootie without a care in the world. The vet said to take her back to have it dressed again on Monday if the bandage was still on - I think I'll take a look at it first and if it seems OK, I'll leave it as it is. He did comment on the fact that all her pads are slightly cracked - I didn't realise that it isn't normal Do you think it is because she doesn't walk on any pavements? - do you think she needs a pedicure? (that could be fun ) She has a multivit tablet every day and a zinc tablet. Any other suggestions?
Egluntyne
Maybe some moisturising cream?

Egluntyne
That should do the trick! If nothing else it should make her smell nice! Not that she doesn't smell lovely anyway!

Lesley
Thanks for that Alison - I would never have thought of looking for something specifically for paws We spent most of yesterday despatching big chickens.... it was sooooooo cold. We didn't get back in until almost 4pm and we took all night to thaw out. We both have some RSI's now - and we still have the turkeys to do My son and I have set up a pulley system, just outside the Brewery, to take some of the weight and make the job a bit easier but it is still hard work. The rest of the plucking and drawing we do in the unheated Brewery. I think next year we may start growing the big table chickens and turkeys a bit earlier in the summer, despatch them in October and freeze them. Four down, four to go........... Snowy
Does sound like hard work Lesley, doing one doesn't sound too bad. But once you have several - very hard work and time consuming!
Aunty e
It was miserable when I did all of ours, and they were diddy. And I had a friend to help with the plucking. I gave in and did guts on the kitchen table though. I began to think seriously about an automatic plucker around bird five. And the smell after scalding them was horrid. Martin B
Sounds like hard work Lesley, but I am sure you will reap the rewards on the 25th.
Lesley
I don't think I've got time to fit in Christmas This morning, we had to leave at 2am to take son and his girlfriend to Luton Airport - nightmare journey in freezing fog and in the dark both ways. Back home for 5.30 so went back to bed until 9am. Still a whole day ahead of us and we had such plans.......... Then the day fell apart......... Evil Oliver was still not happy and has been ramming the new fences. They are very strong fences and have cost an arm and a leg to have done. He has loosened about 15 posts and within 24 hours, would probably have had some of them down completely. Oliver had to go home We phoned his owner and she agreed to ahve him back at 4pm. Carl went to feed the cats - and managed to catch the last little kitten Phoned the Vets and they called back to say we could take him straight away and our vet would neuter it today. By the time Carl had taken the kitten to the Vets and come back to catch Oliver and put him in the trailer it was time to collect two grandchildren - go over to Chipping Norton with Oliver, come back and feed two grandchildren.......... deliver one to a party....... take the other one with us to the vets to collect the kitten......... drop said grandchild off at home........ We are so pleased to have caught all three kittens - and at least we won't have the problems we had last year when we didn't catch just one cat...... I made biscuits for the practice as they've been very helpful..... especially as we usually just turn up with another kitten needing neutering. We at last took the cat trap back to the vets - and had our £20 deposit back We may or may not have lambs next year.......... The house looks like a bomb has hit it......... and Ginette is coming tomorrow to collect her turkey.............. bring a duster Ginette
The Dogmother
Oh dear Lesley - sounds like one of those days when you just want to go back to bed and start again! Did Evil Oliver get to 'do the business'? Will you try another ram?
Guest
Oh what a nightmare day Lesley. Poor you! I have searched around but I just can't remember where I put my duster . . . Can't remember when I last used it either . . . I'm well used to bomb-sites and I think you know me well enough not to worry! It sounds like we could all use a day with friends. I'm looking forward to seeing you. I just hope there's no fog - I couldn't see the farm at all last year!!
