ES Got Knocked off his Motorbike

Recommended Posts

This morning on his way to school. He'd only just left home, was in the right lane of a dual carriageway and a car in the left hand lane just pulled over into his path :?

Fortunately DS managed to brake sufficiently to only bump into the back bumper of the car, but that was enough to push the bike down onto it's side with DS still in situ

Luckily DS bounces well and has suffered just minor grazes/bruising. However although the damage to his bike is also relatively minor, it is now not rideable

The car driver admitted that he didn't see my son and also said that he was only pulling over slowly - they were on a dual carriageway

Thanks all, he was a bit shaken but more upset about his bike I think  I drove down to the scene and met the car driver, who admitted to me as well that he didn't see DS but I think you might be right that it could well be forgotten once the various insurance parties start 'negotiating'

My son had a worse accident last year when a car pulled out in front if him, classic T-bone where he crashed into the side of the car and flew over the top of it  Despite having 5 witnesses that time and the police having to explain to the elderly driver what he had done, no action was taken

This time "Ooops, word censored!"ody bothered to stop, apart from a fellow motorcyclist who was passing a few minutes later. Not even the BMW car travelling behind my son stopped but I suppose we should thank our lucky stars that on such a busy road it didn't turn into something much worse, with one of the following cars then crashing into him

Oh blimey your poor son Lisa. Thank goodness he's okay today and after the accident last year too.

I don't know what it is, but feel that driving has become so very aggressive, folks not indicating, not using the right lanes, going way way too fast, not giving way when they should do... the list goes on :?

Yikes - I'm glad he's ok just a bit battered and bruised. Its a shame about the bike but bodies are more important. Sorry to hear about the accident last year. I can't believe you didn't get anywhere with the accident last year, ridiculous.

OH has taken to wearing a white reflective band jacket over his textiles, any little extra help to make him seen. Its even got twinkling red lights but I don't think he puts them on

OH rides into London every day and says he sees so many 'near' accidents, I'm always relieved when he texts to say he's in the office.

Thanks all for your replies. Fingers crossed it looks like the other guys insurance company are co-operating at the moment because DS's insurance (solicitor  ) have arranged for him to get a hire bike, which they said they would only do after getting the ok from the other party. Also an assessor is coming out to see the damage to his bike.

Must be getting old but I'm sure insurance companies used to contact each other, arrive at some sort of agreement and then you submitted quotes for the damage which was then reimbursed. Now though the insurance company seems to be little more than a broker and hands it straight out to a no win, no fee solicitor. This happened with the crash last year too

Seagazer I know what you mean about feeling anxious about your OH travelling to work, mine does too and as well as him and ES, DD does and she moved up to a 125cc bike this summer from a scooter :anxious: I am nervous from the time they leave until I know that enough time has passed for them to have reached their destinations. They do all wear bright jackets with reflective bits but as you know, sometimes it's just not enough :notalk:

I am pleased that your son hasn't been seriously injured and really hope that it all gets resolved quickly and satisfactorily.

OH is one of those "no win no fee " solicitors (and I am as embarrassed by the adverts as anyone!) and he would go ballistic if either of our two wanted to ride motorbikes. He has just dealt with so many injuries from them. Hope your family all stay safe

Oops, sorry Jlo, now I feel  afraid I'm guilty of not thinking beyond those "I fell over my own feet and got £7000" adverts  Both of us and all 4 children love bikes and for us cars have proved to be just as dangerous - as well as both OH and ES being knocked off their bikes by cars, we've also had some bad car crashes. In 1984 a very serious crash after being hit by a drunk driver, and in 1997 another bad one when we were hit by a woman using her mobile  May be someone is trying to tell us something
