Picking up WIR this weekend - HELP!

Recommended Posts

Oh, he's well aware there's easy food to be had at our house - he's eaten six of our chickens in the last two months. I'm going to put the chooks in the house in a bit, but poor Mog has been puking all night, so I'm waiting for her to be settled before I move them. I'd like them to wake up in the new house so they can get used to living in it over the weekend.

It only took a few hours to finish it and I'm really really pleased with how it's turned out, especially how the house is attached. I did take some pictures but I'm going to get some better ones tomorrow morning I think, as it was nearly dusk by the time I finished. The extra framing means that the house is screwed into the run, and the wire is really firmly attached to the bracing. The roof is on and screwed in round the edges, so extra security and stability there too.

Realised I need to buy the stand for the superglug as I don't have a run to attach them too anymore. They're propped up on bricks at the moment! I've popped an old table in the corner for them to frolic on, but we intend to nip down the tip to pick up more old furniture for them to flap onto and off.

Just tucked them up - now completely paranoid. Sigh. I never worried when they were in the cube...

I know it's for the best, so will try to calm down a bit. It's not like I could stay up all night with a torch trained on them to make sure the fox can't get in. I did my dry run yesterday, and it was fine.

It looks great :) Re the superglug how about putting a piece of wood between two sections of your WIR and then getting one of the kitchen rails to attach - Kroken from Ikea. They're £2.99 for an 80cm one. That's what we've done and it will be much cheaper than the one from the Omlet shop.

What a brilliant idea - we'll be off to Ikea next week then! Also need to get some wood chippings for the floor, although I was pleased to see that the roof held up well under a sudden heavy rain storm an hour or two ago. Makes me hopeful that the chookies will be happier this winter than they were last winter.

Little house is cute as the dickens and the whole roof comes off for cleaning, so should be relatively ok to keep healthy. I've got my poultry shield ready to go anyway :)

Now. To clean the cube. Urgh.

I love your Go! I'm going to save up for one I think.

Girls fine this morning, now having a wander round the run. We've got some old wooden shelving units to put up in there when I get the chance, so we can build little ladders up to them and add a bit more interest. Now trying to remember what came with my cube in terms of glugs and grubs. I know the peanuts were all bought as extras, and I also bought a couple of superglugs, so I think it's one superglug and a grub. Not sure where this glug came from mind you. I suspect it probably came with the cube as they ran out of superglugs when they first released them and mine was a very early model. I'm not desperately looking forward to taking the cube apart again, it was a pain in the bum when we moved house!

Cubes (as far as I recall) are delivered with a Superglug and a Grub. That looks fabulous, Aunty E - glad they have settled in, I am not surprised you are paranoid after your awful experience with foxes, but hopefully this is the solution. That run is HUGE, I am very  - it's going to make life a lot, lot easier for you.

I did something similar in my WIR :D

All still fine here - we were away last night, so I was a little apprehensive but they were all tucked up asleep when we got home. We're going to accessorise some more over the next week, but the run itself was dry and there was a lot of rain over the weekend so we're pleased that they'll be sheltered over the winter. Thinking of getting some ex-batts now, as we have the room and don't really need any eggs. :)
