reneepren
I was making a curry from scratch, grinding spices etc. so bought a young Thai coconut. Then I was too daunted to try chopping it. I put it in the garden for the hens and they loved it! It lasted for four or five days. I hid it in the big layer pellet bin at times as as they were so obsessed with it I worried they weren't eating enough other things. Patricia W
It's interesting the things that some will eat and others won't. Mine hate pumpkin - even chopped up - too much effort I think. I'll have to try coconut.
txswanie
Thats funny, I put two halves of a coconut in the run and they have completely ignored it. Bear in mind that these little beasts will eat almost anything. I really thought they would enjoy it, but no....
Tweety
Mine are even fussy about which cabbages they like - they love spring greens but totally ignore any other type!

goodinparts
Bought a big bunch of spring greens & my girls seem to have used it as flooring...Do you cooks it for your girls, Tweety?
megalin
Hens are so strange about their eating habits! I think mine are plain lazy and I have to chop everything up for them, maybe they're just not hungry enough?! Also eating is a competitive sport for them so anything I feed them by hand is devoured. One of ours adores tomato, mostly the juice inside and runs around making squelching noises with her head in the air until it's drained Porridge with fruit and nuts is always a favourite though! I'll have to try coconut, they certainly love coconut water, I give it to them when they're sick for the electolytes.
Tweety
Hi goodinparts, no I don't cook the spring greens for them. I usually hang them up in the run, and the girls love tearing strips off and eating them. It keeps them busy as well as being good for them!
