Alis girls
Knowing my elderly dad as i do and the fact he will be economical with the truth - I wondered if any Omletters from EM could tell me state of roads. Hes due to drive down on 24th. Hes been in the ditch some yrs back and I dont want him to repeat the experience. I'm sure he doesnt either - but I have to have summat to worry about and this is it
Steve the Gas
Main Roads and Motorways are fine but freezing!!
Lavenders_Blue
In my little part of the world there is no snow, but heavy frosts. Roads are okay but watch out for black ice!
Lewis
Ditto here. Motorways and main roads are fine. Country lanes and smaller roads are no-go really.
Snowy
We are in rural east midlands and the roads are fine here, just be aware of the temp (-7 throughout the day predicted) and beware of ice.
Alis girls
thanks everyone - I think our roads are worse in London.
debbier
My Mum lives over there (Leicestershire), and she has no snow. We are snowed in (West Mids).
Saronne
Main roads are clear with a bit of black ice; rural roads a bit worse. All in all, not too bad. We got off lightly! Saronne x
The Dogmother
Don't forget that the Midlands in general is due a big dump of snow tonight and through to tomorrow.
Alis girls
MMmm great news - just what I didnt want to hear thanks Claret. Suspect he will find away even hiring huskies and a sledge knowing my dad

Redwing
Yup, we are due a lot more tonight - I work in London and have been snowed in so couldnt get there. We were snowploughed today but not much grit on the roads, even the main A5 and A43 were snowed and iced over yesterday evening
chuckmum6
We are expecting snow tonight (yippee!) so check back again tomorrow. Up until now the roads are fine, it is just bitterly cold and there is a beautiful haw frost - very Christmassy! Does any one know what it is like in North Lincs and Hull, outlaws are due to travel on 24th, not the best drivers in good weather!
Geoid
thanks everyone - I think our roads are worse in London. The roads are fine! Cycled 20 miles today and it wasn't much worse than if there had been a heavy downpour.
The Dogmother
Thanks, Claret, I'll get me coat... Sorry Saronne, you'll need two coats if we get down to the promised temperatures too Just been out driving in Banbury - took me 20 mins to clear all the snow off the van. Main road through town isn't too bad, but side roads like ours are a nightmare still.

Alis girls
Sorry Fred have to disagree - main roads are fine but took pressie to YS's music teacher yesterday and the side roads were awful. I was a gibbering wreck by the time I got home having slithered up and down in car. Thanks to all the Midlandites for replying - knew I could count on Omlet
Snowy
Eeek! 4" of snow overnight - not sure about the roads as not ventured out yet.
Steve the Gas
Your user name is so ironic......^^.... Not even gonna try today!!
Lavenders_Blue
Yep, lots of snow overnight here too. Very very pretty, but not sure what the roads are going to be like. I have to go to Peterborough today for work so am going to defrost the car and give it a go, but if the roads are bad I'll be coming straight home, my car isn't really designed for snow (and I'm not keen on driving in it either). chuckmum6
Lots of snow here now! Chickens not coming out of the cube train . We have a hill near us that is the villages main road in and out - lots of slipping cars, reversing back down and hazard lights, but a tractor with a snow plough has been up and down, most cars are getting up now. It is still snowing though ....however we are still planning to go to Nottingham with the boys this afternoon to see the new Narnia film, I sure our 4x4 will be fine. I might need to buy some eggs as my girls have stopped laying almost totally, just two little bantie marans that are laying (and moulting) the odd egg. First bought eggs since I had them - so I can't really moan! Hen Solo laid a lovely bluey green egg today, now shortest day is over she is back in lay, hurray ! Geoid
Sorry Fred have to disagree - main roads are fine but took pressie to YS's music teacher yesterday and the side roads were awful. Some of the side roads have been gritted, but I kept off the non gritted ones, they looked scary!
Saronne
I ventured into Leicester this morning and the main roads were semi-clear but very slow-going. Town was very slushy. Defo boots weather!
