eddys
Hi all, I live in Asia (southern Taiwan) and wondering if there are any other members who are also in Asia. I am hoping to keep some chickens and maybe bees but trying to find out more info specific to our region as we have very hot and humid summers, as well as typhoon and rainy seasons - although our winters are nice and mild ! Thanks ! Ed
Lewis
I know we have someone in Singapore but not sure about anyone else Chickens should be fine in rain, as long as they were in a covered run - not sure if it would flood? Hope you can get some help you're looking for!
eddys
Thanks Iwescott, I used to live in Singapore - miss the food but not the weather - hot n humid every single day ! We can get flooding here, especially after typhoons but I am hoping to locate on a hill or at least high ground. I am also hoping to keep pigs - hope I can find an "Omlet for pigs" type site as Omlet seems a great resource. Ed
Plum
My son lives in Vietnam where the temps are in high 30's all the time. There are six cockerals outside his flat and they manage very well in the heat! I wouldn't use an eglu in those conditions though. They function very well in our climate but could see them retaining heat. Best contact Omlet for the tolerances.
eddys
Hi Plum, Thanks for the idea on heat tolerances - never thought of that. I am waiting for Omlet to reply on if they can ship to this part of the world. Once I hear back from them I will ask on this point. They do state the walls can keep chickens "cool in summer" and I plan to have them in an area of shade for heat as well as the rain protection. But I will be sure to check. eddys
Thanks Sparkysmum, I was in UK in early Dec and just managed to escape before the snows hit Heathrow. We do have winter here in Taiwan and the temp is expected to drop to 6C this weekend. Not cold by UK standards but we don't have home heating here in Asia so sometimes it almost feels colder than UK ! Ed
