sparkysmum
I'm interested in principle in e-bikes as petrol is becoming so expensive & in reality we can't really afford the luxury of keeping 2 cars on the road. I thought that if our 18yr old Volvo had to go we could maybe think about an electric bike. Would love to hear of anyone's experience. craftyhunnypie
Yes. We have a scooter type one & a normal one. Plus a beast that hubby made himself. We don't really use them much these days as try to keep fit on our normal bikes. But they were good. The best are made by Giant. Have a look at 50cycles.com Emma.x
Geoid
I would just get a decent normal bike, then you can use that and get fitter , also there are zero emissions (the electricty for electric bikes has to be made somehow....
Redwing
We had a very close look at these for my husband to get to work, they looked pretty good but the thing that put us off was the range (as his commute is 10 miles each way) We ended up getting a moped
sparkysmum
Thanks Redwing & Fred. Have got a normal bike the school that I work in is 7.5 miles away & I live at the top of a hill. So realistically there is no chance that I'll cycle to work esp when I try to get home before the kids. I had thought about a scooter but a work colleague who does scooter says that motorists just don't give you enough room Sounds too scary for me. Geoid
If you have a decent bike, it should have enough gears to make getting up hills fairly easily, if you cycle enough (daily) you should be able to get home in around 20 minutes. But, cycling can be scary as there are quite a few idiots on the road, as this happened to me a few weeks ago. sparkysmum
Fred that was so scary, you were lucky to get home in one piece
Shirl
The OH has a decent bike and it takes him 16 minutes to cycle the 3 1/2 miles home. It is uphill a lot and lots of junctions and roads to cross so it really does depend on what the roads are like. In reality I don't think it would make much difference timewise if he were on an electric bike though although it would be a lot easier on his legs. He isn't overweight but he's not a spring chicken either!
