scarlettohara
I thought one of my poorly ex-batts Saffron had a hard crop today, so after reading advice on here and Practical Poultry I syringed a little olive oil into her beak (I had a good sniff of her breathe first to check it wasn't sour crop but no smell) and then massaged her crop gently for a few minutes. It is now much softer and I could feel the mash move around, was this right Edited January 30, 2011 by Guest
Egluntyne
I'd say so. I'd also confine her and just give her water for a few hours, and repeat the oil and massage when you can. Hopefully that should get things shifted.
mostin
I think so, it won't have done her any harm. Keep a close eye on her, and keep smelling to check it doesn't turn sour, and that it is empty in the morning

scarlettohara
Crop completely empty this morning Gave her a few maggots anyway as a treat Falkor gave me some really good advice - ex-batts always have quite a big full crop as they fill up on any food available. This is learnt from the cages as their food appears every few hours so they grab it while they can Even though we give them access to food all the time they keep this up. So I probably panicked a bit but she is such a tiny little thing and she did look a bit miserable yesterday. I'm just glad she is OK
Falkor
Glad that she is ok They have access to food at all times at the farm too but like our back garden girls they eat the best bits first

Lavenders_Blue
ex-batts always have quite a big full crop as they fill up on any food available. I know what you mean, sometimes my girls crops look like tennis balls on their chests! Can be a bit but they always go down by morning. scarlettohara
Since I gave her the oil and maggots her crop has been a lot smaller, I think she just pigged out that day Her crop was about 3 times the size of her head
