Poorly Roobarb - died this afternoon

Recommended Posts

Roobarb has a nasty of pulling out feathers, mostly her own  ( I fitted a anti- peck bit and covered her in anti peck spray to no avail).

She has gone a bit too far this time and she has now got an open wound on her back. I've sprayed her with purple spray and we have a vets appointment as she appears to be pretty depressed, she is sitting around looking gloomy and has a worryingly purple tinge to her comb.

She is currently sitting in the pet carrier in the conservatory looking very sorry for herself. Please keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing sinister and she is just feeling stupid for hurting herself ( and it looks pretty sore too)

Roobarb is still with us. She has an infection in the wound and possibly a chest infection ( hence the slight purple colour to her comb). She has had a Baytril jab and we have some Baytril to dose her with tommorrow and for the next few days. The Vet said it's touch and go, she may or not make it thro' the night.

The vet is also a chook keeper............he has three pet chickens in his back garden :D .

Latest update on Roobarb.

She took her Baytril laced peas with no problem and has managed more peas and some corn as well as small amounts of water during the day.

She looked quite perky when I picked up the jar of corn used for rounding up the chooks  (they are all trained to come running when the jar is shaken). She is in the conservatory in a make shift run at the moment, so I can keep an eye on her and to keep the others from pecking at her.I'm not back at work until Monday so she can stay in the conservatory until then to give her plenty of rest and attention.

Her comb is looking pinker too, so hopefully we are thro' the worst bit now. She is on Baytril for the next few days so fingers crossed that should do the trick.
