Hi everyone,

As some of you may know I had to separate my little silkie flump from the hybrids as Matilda was badly picking on her. She had accepted the other two new hybrids but wouldn't accept little flump. Anyway we have brought flump in and she's doing fine in a large indoor guinea pig cage in our conservatory for now. We are about to order a new hen house and then we were gonna get her a new silkie friend. I was just wondering, wouldn't it not make sense to get another two silkies so that we then have 3 silkies including flump? if we spending money on another hen house what's another one  We absolutely love silkies by the way, I have always wanted one, but now excited at the possiblity of three! I know egg production won't be brilliant and I know they go broody easily, but I mainly want them as my ornamental fluffy pets!

Have any of you got 3 or more silkies living happily together?? just wanted to run it past you lovely omleteers before we make any rash decisions. Thank you :D

Yes sorry I was talking to you fluffychick  Do you do anything about the broody one, i.e. ice packs or do you just let her get on with it? and do they tend to be any noiser than the usual chickens? sorry for all the questions, just want to check we are doing the right thing. i sure we are but the most chickens we ever had is 3! so we'd be up to 6 if we get these two other silkies. Thanks :)

thank you still finding my way round!

I've decided to leave her to it to be honest. I lift her off twice a day and she'll go and eat and drink so not too worried. She is very sweet about being kicked off the nest and is clean and fluffy as she isn't going out! I shut her out the coop the other day and she just layed on the concrete and made a lot of noise until I let her back in  Usually though they are very quiet. All good, just tiny eggs!

How is your little silky doing?

Hi, welcome and just I would add that I have five silkies, red, blue, partridge and two gold. They are the dearest little characters, very chatty and friendly and I was lucky enough to have four or five eggs all winter. Doris the partridge is broody again though, has been for two weeks despite all my efforts. Would love a black and a white as well and the cuckoo is really pretty. Have fun. :D

Whatever number you get, be prepared that you might want more e.g. one of each colour

I have one white, one gold and one black as well as a little partridge cockerel and I just love them. If I had to have a favourite, though, it would be the gold one, aptly named 'Dolly'. Her colour is so pretty and she has the best Russian hat of them all as well as being really gentle. My black one is also very gentle. My white one is a bit of a bruiser (top chook) so it shows that they can have very different personalities. All are very tame and I can easily scoop up one in each arm without them getting in a flap. I don't find them noisy, just nicely chatty. They laid !eggcream! all through the winter, and they weren't that small either, but now the laying has stopped. One is broody, one is molting and one is just sulking.

I have three silkie crosses one is a frizzle feathered. They often go round together and go broody at the drop of a hat. Another thing is they are very noisy, I think thye like to make up with noise what they lack in size. :)
