Oven Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Hi Oh knowledgeable Omleteers

How much does it cost to have an oven professionally cleaned? We are moving in 2 weeks time and the oven is staying here. I hate cleaning it but feel it would be a nice gesture to have it done really well (at least once in its life!) but I'm wary of spending a fortune when there are so many other more pressing costs associated with moving house.

Many thanks

Sarah

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago it is a double and was I am ashamed to say filthy! It was £60 but with the new bulb nearly £70. We were told it was a self cleaner(not sure if they really exist) but its not! Well thats my excuse.

The guy took a couple of hours and did a fantastic job, first time I ever had it done(no wonder it was filthy). Looks brand new now

Donald.

Nearly £10 for a new bulb  Cost me £1.89 from the local diy ey place for mine.

I must admit to being tempted a couple of times, but I am always worried that they will break something then I will have to spend considerably more on a new oven. I would rather get the Oven Mate out and spend a couple of hours spucing it up from time to time than spend more than a days wages getting someone else to do it.

Self cleaning oven only work if you use high temperatures regularly, my oven has stayed much cleaner since I started cooking bread regularly. I also wipe out the inside with a cloth after cooking a roast while the oven is still warm which removes a lot of the grease very quickly and stops a build up.

Never used one myself, but here's the prices page of our local firm which a neighbour uses.

That is really helpful to have it all broken down like that, thank you. Having totted up the costs I think the new owners may have to make do with my elbow grease - I can't afford to be that nice to them!

Thanks to all who have replied.

We used Ovenclean - they are local (franchise I think it is). My cooker needed an engineer and no way was I going to let him see my dirty ovens! It cost us £80 and OH gave him a little extra as he worked really hard - he even fixed one of the doors for me! Hopefully I will remember to clean it more often so won't have to use them, but this guy was good.

I never realised that there were people that would clean your oven :oops:

Next thing is having people to do your spring cleaning.............

I could think of so many other ways to spend that sort of money......you lot must have money to throw away.

Me too, I just give it a quick clean most times I use it. It's never been so bad that I needed to give it a deep clean.

I think that I used the same ones. Worth every penny for me as I HATE cleaning ovens! Having said that, it was very embarrassing to hear him chipping the gunk off!

Wow!!...people who will clean your oven...

I use the liner from Lakeland and my steam cleaner and keep on top of ours mostly..that said we are vegetarian so no roast dinners helps.....

However, I really would like someone who would come in every night and clean the hob!!!!

:D
