Goodbye Daisy

Recommended Posts

My lovely Amber Star, Daisy, died this evening.

She was about 2 and a half years old, and was a real softie. She was the first Girl who was happy to be picked up and cuddled, and she was a very clever escape artist. Her speciality was limboing under gaps in the fencing.

She had some form of respiratory infection some time ago, and two courses of antibiotics eased the symptoms but couldn't eradicate the problem. She was happy, eating well, laying, had a clean bottom and clear eyes, so we let her carry on. Over the past couple of weeks her breathing became a bit more laboured, but everything else was still fine. Even yesterday she laid an egg and was busy chomping tomatoes.

Today, her breathing was really heavy, and I noticed that she wasn't eating so much. WHen I picked her up early this evening I could feel that her crop was empty, and so we decided it was time to put her to sleep.

We said our goodbyes, and DH did the deed for me.

She is much loved, and I'll miss her more than I can articulate.
