Bramble
Poor little Tikka died overnight. She had sour crop a couple of weeks ago and was really poorly, but seemed to make a fantastic recovery. She was absolutely fine when I let them out for play time yesterday afternoon, but then was very quiet later and had to be carried to bed. I found her this morning tucked up in the Eglu. She had ten months of freedom out of her battery cage, I hope you enjoyed it, little one. xx

dancing cloud
So sad when any of our ex-batts go to the forever free-range but 10 months of freedom meant she got to play in the sun, shout at the rain and even experience snow, as well as enjoying all the food, water and love her little henny heart could have desired. Passing away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her friends is a good way to go. Bye, bye, little Tikka.
Bramble
Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I guess I've been semi-expecting this since Tikka was poorly a couple of weeks ago, although she was almost back to normal, she wasn't quite the same as before. I keep telling myself that she had a lovely last few hours yesterday including play time in the sunshine and then snuggled down to sleep in her eglu house, just hope it didn't hurt ... Bramble
So sorry you lost little Tikka. It doesnt get any easier losing our girls does it? I think our hens both had sour crop at the same time. Thinking of you. Thank you, yes, Elsie and Tikka were both poorly over the same weekend. I think Tikka got over her sour crop, but now think it was probably more of a symptom that something else wasn't quite right. It's odd that she's gone first, she always seemed the biggest and (I thought) strongest of my ex-batts, she was definitely the least "oven ready" when they arrived. All very sad, I must say, I didn't think that I would be quite as affected by it as I am, though I've sort of had two weeks (since Tikka was poorly last time) to get used to the idea that I won't have them all forever. vickichicky
Very sad for you I've got one of my 3 Ex-Batts left - she'll be 4 in June Bless her. Lost one last year to Peritonitus & one last month to 'old age'. They were/are the best, funniest chickens. You just have to think what a new lease of life they had with you. ((Hugs)) from me & Benni xx
