Chicken Kitty
Well after a couple of months of planning....most of which was spent on deciding which breed to have! We are finally getting 3 Sussex bantams!!! Yippee! We found a breeder a few weeks ago and have been waiting for their next girls to be ready, which they now are! So on Sunday morning we are collecting our 3 girls aged 10 weeks, 14 weeks and 15 weeks! I feel very excited .....but as we are complete novices I'm a little nervous too! Chortle Chook
Good on you. Sussex are such pretty birds and will give you lots of yummy Are they all three white ones or might you have a buff one in there?
scarlettohara
If they haven't been in together might be an idea to get 3 the same age - 5 weeks can make quite a difference and you may get a bit of bullying. Lovely breed though - go on get a buff
egglicious
Oh, man! I don't think we can get bantam sussex in the states. I was trying to find them online with no such luck. Can't wait to see pics!!

Chicken Kitty
I did wonder about the age difference (have seen photos and even to my untrained eye I can see a big difference between the oldest and youngest! ) so I spoke to the breeder and she said that they live happily together in a big group with other youngsters and also a fully grown cockerel and a fully grown hen and that if they will be the only birds we have in their group, then they will be fine......So fingers crossed! Chicken Kitty
Just realised I missed the most important details off last post!!!!! One is buff, one is white and one isn't standard colour but looks a very pretty girl! The breeder has a georgeous silver sussex boy but I don't think the neighbours would appreciate him!......Mind you the local pheasant makes enough noise to wake up half the village so...... Will post photos when we bring them home! Fingers crossed they all get along as well as the breeder predicts.....Wish me luck!

I'm that you'll be getting a buff. They are just so pretty aren't they? Like home made meringues, almost yummy As for the cockerel, have you asked your neighbours? Some people actually like the sound of a cockerel and having one certainly adds something to your flock as cockerels are even funnier critters than hens and can be such gents. Mine has a special little noise he makes to tell his girls that he has found some goodies. He never, ever takes first. Funnily my OH's interest in my chook hobby greatly increased (improved) once our cockerel arrived and I regularly find them in conversation together
Chicken Kitty
I would be perfectly happy to have a cockerel but not so sure about the rest of the people in our road! We do have quite a big garden (150ft) and we also back onto fields......but I think people may complain! There are other chickens living down the road but I haven't yet heard a cockerel. Think I'd better just start off with the girls!
poppy ben grace
Maybe you could say to your neighbours the breeder made a" mistake", and sold you a cockeral thinking it was a hen!
