Meet our new Bantams!

Recommended Posts

We had a call last week from the lady we got our Silkies from to say that the Sablepoot babies we've been waiting for were off heat and ready to collect!!

We spent Saturday dividing off the run and went to pick them up them that evening... I was unbearably excited at the prospect but OH was much calmer and had firm ideas about us only getting the pair of poots. However, he soon succumbed to the charms of the bantam babies and we ended up with a pair of Poots, a Partridge Pekin and a Chocolate Wyandotte! They are the sweetest little things, only 10-12 weeks old. I was thinking that the perches would be too high for them but they flew straight up without any hesitation! Is there anything else I need to provide for them apart from growers pellets and their water? I've got a little pot of grit in there for them but I had a panic about it, wondering if they'll need a special kind? I've never had anything other than POL before, so it's all new to me!

They've all settled in very well- the other girls and Norris are fascinated by them! I think the cheeping noises has turned one of my Silkies broody though! She's hunkered down right next to the dividing wire, looking suspiciously flat and clucking away. My first broody too :anxious: - I'd better get a cage ready

I've just been out to check on them and they're all lined up on the top perch like sparrows- so cute!

What absolutely stunning chooks :!: No wonder you couldn't leave Mary and Mavis behind. Mary is as desirable as a KitKat!

I like Norris too . . .very much . . . but are you absolutely certain she is a girl? I'm no expert at all, but that top knot looks not quite like a girl's but then it could be the photo.

Thanks everybody! I'm so proud :D:lol:

Norris is definitely all man! He's my Silkie Cockerel just checking out the future additions to his harem!

It's Mrs. Bishop, one of my Silkie girls who seems to be going broody... I wasn't entirely sure that she was showing the symptoms yesterday, being a broody novice. However, today I lifted her up from her favourite spot by the babies run and she immediately flopped back down in the shape of a pancake.

I'll have to go and buy a cage for her tomorrow... I've only got a large dog crate that I use as a hospital wing for poorly chooks. I think I'd be better off with something smaller
