Space Chick
I have bathed Silkies, although have ensured that they are cool blow dried before returned to the flock... Big Suze (RIP) was cool with this, Amy (also RIP) hated it I currently have 6 silkie chicks (gender unknown) who I wonder how will deal with bathing
scarlettohara
Got 2 new girls today who needed a new home (rude not to ) but the blue looks distinctly dusty and rather grey although the partridge is really beautiful. Good luck with the chicks, I'm hoping to have some eggs from these girls with my frizzle pekin as Dad

Parsley
Hi Scarlettohara Just curious if your silkie growers are turning out little girls or boys. I got mine the same day as you from the same place and two of the three are/were boys with the third most likely to be also but being given the benefit of the doubt for a few more weeks However, I have found a breeder close by and when I come back from holiday in a few weeks, I am picking up two gorgeous gold girlies, one bearded and one without and a really pretty light partridge hen which I talked her into letting me have also She also did the deed on one of the boys and found a home for the other. scarlettohara
Well neither of them have crowed otherwise can't tell and too young for eggs yet The 2 I collected yesterday are 18 months old so definately girls - they had to go as previous owners neighbours had complained that one was too loud when she laid She's been as good as gold so far
Chortle Chook
I bath my Silkies and then sit them on a towel on my lap and dab them with a piece of paper kitchen towel (one sheet goes nicely over the back of one bird) to get rid of the surplus wet. You can give their tails and top knots an extra squeeze with the paper kitchen towel as that is where they get most water logged. Then blow dry them on a just warm / low blow setting. They love it. I'm no expert but girly Silkies have pom poms like powder puffs on their heads and the boys have something that looks more like thin feathers on theirs.
