Chookno5
One of my hens has taken to hogging the nest box and shows all the signs of being broody - fluffed up, hot, etc. But her comb is still bright red and she is still laying. However, if you try to move her from the nest box she puffs herself up, pecks at you and shrieks like she is being murdered. She also is flapping her wings quite a lot and shrieking when she does this when she is out in the garden. Any thoughts?
lindafw
Thats what my buff orpington did just before she stopped laying and went broody. Next time she did it I shoved her in my spare small run with no access to the cube till bed time. She still stopped laying but didn't stay broody perhaps I should have done it earlier

Egluntyne
She sounds as if she is getting broody. I imagine she will stop laying any time soon.
gongladosh
Defs broody. When our sussex bantam goes broody, she sits on the nest like a feathery pancake and makes a cry that sounds like 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' when you try to pick her up. Heavy flapping with accompanying war cry just confirms it! You're gonna need a broody cage or you're stuck with if for 3 to 4 weeks.
bouldercroft
She also is flapping her wings quite a lot and shrieking when she does this when she is out in the garden. Any thoughts? utterly broody - send her to the sin bin!
chuckmum6
utterly broody - send her to the sin bin! I have one in my 'coop of shame', broody again (4th time this season) and as mad as a box of frogs! Good luck, it will take about 3 days to snap her out of it,maybe less if you catch her early. I have a constant flow of hormonal hens, but none of this flock have ever pecked me, some of my other hens from the past were vicious madams!
