The Dogmother
It's much more difficult to tell at this time of year when they mature more slowly; I had youngsters last autumn and some of them were slow to show their colours.
Kazzy73
I know, its a good excuse to keep him/her a bit longer but might be a bit harder to give him away when and if the time comes but he/she has such a funny scatter brain character, and is getting such lovely feathers and pretty colours should start thinking about where he might go if he/she turns out to be a noisey boy, does anyone know where might take him in the berkshire area??? Redwing
There is a bit of general advice here: http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=45782 Unfortunately the chances of finding a home for a crossbreed cockerel are rather limited, it rules out a breeding home and with feed at its current high price even less people than normal want to take on a non productive bird. Your best bet would be to try pets corner or city farm type organisations. I'd still be inclined to take it back to the breeder, from what you say you were sold a probable male chick of a breed that doesnt actually exist so if thats true I'd be looking for a refund if I was you. Kazzy73
Thank you for the link Redwing,I got him/her from a nuttell garden centre so I dont think they would take it back, have a few little kiddy farms around (odds farm) so might try them if he/she makes its mind up and turns into whatever lol. MedusA
I had such a Lupin-shaped hole in my life after he'd gone. To console me, OH said I could have more hens. I contacted my local BHWT and as luck would have it they had a release last weekend and now I have 4 new ex-batts to ease the pain of parting. Plum
Now you'll feel better, hate to think how much 'consoling' you'd have needed if he had a different outcome. Do we meet your girls?
The Dogmother
That's the sort of result that I like... 'the chicken is dead/gone... long live the hens'
Chortle Chook
I had such a Lupin-shaped hole in my life after he'd gone. To console me, OH said I could have more hens. I contacted my local BHWT and as luck would have it they had a release last weekend and now I have 4 new ex-batts to ease the pain of parting. 4 for 1 Must have been a large hole - or perhaps just an odd shaped one

MedusA
Yes. Thank you so much for all your help Tasha. It's taken 6 new chooks to console me and I still miss him very much. I'm so glad he's gone to a loving forever home with someone who won't have to worry like I did about his very loud cock-a-doodle-dooing in a very urban area. Bless him. For something so tiny he did have a H-U-G-E voice.
