MedusA
A few weeks ago DD found an injured chicken outside her house and gave me a call. It looked as though she'd been attacked by a fox but somehow escaped. She had a wound on her chest so I got her to the vet and after a course of antibiotics she's made a full recovery and is now integrated into my flock. Initially we named her Lucky but then, as she was bitten on the night of the full moon, we changed it to Lupin (HP reference). She has lovely yellow legs and a berry comb, but hasn't laid yet. She has gorgeous glossy plumage. Can anybody tell me what breed she might be? She looks a bit like my Black Rock but she's much smaller and I think she might be a pure breed. She has pretty lacing on her feathers.

Redwing
Well done for helping it get better Its a gold laced Wyandotte bantam by the looks of it - I think its a cockerel though. I could be wrong - I am not very good with laced Wyandottes!
Sam
I think its a cockerel though. I could be wrong I have no experience with sexing, but I thought that too, them little greeny coloured turned up feather at the back looks boy-ish I hope I'm wrong because he/she looks so nice! Well done for helping it
MedusA
I think its a cockerel though. I could be wrong - I am not very good with laced Wyandottes! I really hope not Redwing and Sam as I live in a built up area. The hackle feathers are rounded not pointy and there are no signs of spurs. I'm remaining positive and calling her a she....for now. Leeloo
I'm kind of new to chickens myself, but those hackle and saddle feathers spelled boy to me so I was confused... until I started reading the other comments! Good luck with him/her!

Chortle Chook
If Lupin is a 'he' never mind. Cockerels can be quite delightful and if you pop him in a cat basket in your bathroom at night your neighbours won't have much to complain about. Against all the noises of traffic, sirens etc etc daytime crowing will just be a nice noise. Anyway, that's what we do with our Dill, using one of those wicker baskets that are lower at one end than the other, and he seems quite happy. It also gives his hens a little bit of 'me time' early in the morning
miller30
It doesnt allways work that way some people just dont want to hear any crowing doesnt matter if its at night or in the day just depends on who your neighbours are leanne
gongladosh
you could always give it a try and see how it works (if she IS a he...)
Egluntyne
I agree, it looks like a young cockerel. The hackle feathers and the tail are very indicative.

MedusA
Oo er! I think there may have been an attempt at a strangled cock-a-doodle-doo this morning. Not a peep since though. I'm watching (and listening) very closely. I'm getting paranoid about it.
Mrs Webmuppet
Just for your info.........some pics of Bling, a gold laced Wyandotte hen. She was being a bit camera shy and Bromley kept trying to get in the shots.
MedusA
Sadly (for me) he did turn out to be a cockerel and was far too noisy to keep in an urban setting, so he's gone off for rehoming to someone from this forum who very kindly offered to take him (she knows who she is but I didn't want to name names in case she got inundated). It was soooooo quiet this morning. It was for the best but he'd become a most beautiful boy and it was a wrench to part from him.
WitchHazel
Sorry to hear that you've had to rehome Lupin, such a stunner, but how great that someone on this forum was able to take him. HUgs to you.
Kazzy73
So sorry to hear you have had to give him away,Im going through the same thing with a chook I bought a little while ago, still no crowing,no eggs,no harrassing the hens,so I just dont know (he/she is about 22-23 weeks now) http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=82666
