Egluntyne
Looks very ominous here. The sky has that worrying greenish tinge. It was absolutely lovely yesterday. Spent 3 hours giving the girls a major clean out. They smell divine.

buffie
ok. sorry to be a spoil sport but I've just looked at the long range forecast on the met office (because I have a wedding on the 4th august) but they forecast rain and unsettled conditions and un-seasonal temperatures until the 31st of July Drat !! This has cheered me up At least there is an end in sight. Pouring this morning so off for a walk in the rain from metcheck Heavy Rain & Thunderstorms-- Areas Affected: England & Wales This is an update to the earlier issued Advanced Weather Warning. A developing area of low pressure is expected to push up from the near continent bringing some very inclement weather during Friday and into the weekend. Further forecast data has increased the level of confidence regarding which areas will experience the highest rainfall totals. This risk area has now been pushed further Westwards than initially thought. As a result the Midlands and Central-Southern England are at greatest risk of seeing the largest rainfall totals. A general 20 to 30mm of rain is possible almost anywhere across England and Wales during Friday and into Saturday. However localised totals within the highest risk areas could reach up to 60 to 70mm. Flooding is expected, especially where any thunderstorm activity is present. The heavy rain will progress northwards as originally expected, bringing a possible renewed risk of flooding to parts of Northern England later on Friday and overnight into Saturday. Charlottechicken
It was awful here last night, lightning and really really heavy rainfall (found out the back porch leaks badly, into my mock crocs ). Checked the rain gauge and we had 10ml in an hour I am off out today on the bus to visit a friend, and yes Karl, I saw the forecast too! Batten the hatches It was such a lovely day yesterday as well
Guest
We were wondering where the lightening was Claire We could see it in the distance last night Beautiful day yesterday until about 8pm then it started to spot with rain, then about 10pm it poured Really dark and pouring with rain this morning Last day of term for the children, Harry is having his leavers assembly They have not been to school once during the summer term without their sweatshirts
Guest
We have had massive thunder this morning - it made me scream it was so loud! It sounded like cannon-fire with that great big boom afterwards. It is so dark I keep thinking it's nearly bedtime! My girls are quite happy to be driven to the bus-stop. They were driven this morning because DD2 wasn't ready in time to walk. DD2 is spending the day at Thorpe Park - a prize for coming first in some year Enterprise programme. She gets to go earlier than the rest of the year group. She did take her cagoule! Laura & CTB
Some storm eh Ginette I'm at work and have just had to work outside for half an hour - now I'm drenched! Needed two hands to do the job and a third to hold my brolly so I wasn't very sucessful at keeping dry
Guest
Oh no Laura! Outside!! Poor you, you must be drowned. Now you'll need a nice cup of tea and one of those walk-in body dryers that they have at theme parks. I suspect it's only going to get worse! My back garden is flooding already and the road at the front is an inch deep in water. Nothing compared with Sheffield I know, but what has happened there has scared me. Horley is supposed to flood (i.e. rowing boats down the main road) every 100 years but locals argue it could be more frequent. Last time was in 1960. If we did flood badly though, the council might listen to the advice about flooding in the fields behind me and not build 2500 houses there! sam42
It's pouring down here and new chooks are all huddled under the summer shade. I'm about to go and try and attach a shower curtain as recommended by you all.
Egluntyne
It hasn't actually rained here yet, despite it being weird and green all day. It was very warm earlier, but is chilly now. I had to put the light on in the north facing sitting room at 1.30pm on a July day as I couldn't see to find what I was looking for!!!!!! Sarah 2
My poor chickens are soaking. Apparently we've had 4 inches of rain this morning.(Hampshire) It's stopped now. They look like they could do with a good blow dry. They did insist on wondering around in the heavy rain like it was a nice warm morning. Clash City Rocker
I would of "put my light on at 1.30pm on a July day" and central heating, however as we've had no electricity since 9.00am it's not possible. Been heavy or torrential rain in Worcester since 8.00pm Thursday night and no sign of any change. Numerous roads closed. Thinking of making an ARK. Egluntyne
Very interesting......at the moment it is raining in my back garden.....but not in the front!!!
Charlottechicken
Got home an hour ago, completely and utterly drenched! Went to a friend's house on the bus, but as well as torrential rain there was a really bad accident, a lorry (I think it may be a dustcart) drove into a shop and the main road was closed. Got on the bus after waiting ages, and the driver didn't know there was a diversion, and followed the police one not the bus one I told him he was going the wrong way but the depot disagreed until another passenger told him too, he had to do a 3 point turn (double decker!) in a narrow side road to get back on to the diversion. We then had to guide driver through diversion till he met up with his route again Coming home, no buses so I started to walk, got nettled by overhanging foliage onto pavement and was soaked from ears down due to horizontal rain. Caterpillar type boots soaked through and I had my own indoor pools in them too Finally hooked up with a bus and got off where he split from my route only to find all my buses were now 'out of service' Started to walk again and got to next stop when a bus turned up, phew! Had to undress in the kitchen I was so wet, I could actually wring my trousers out, boots are ruined I think Chickens are wet and moaning and according to my little rain gauge we have had 35mm of rain, it felt like more. all dry now though, and got some exercise into the bargain! Jules.
Claire, what type of rain gauge have you got? Sounds interesting & educational. Bus drivers, eh?! When I am at work I catch the bus, it's quite entertaining sometimes. I know who gets on a what stop etc... I wouldn't be a bus driver, though, I can just about park our Picasso in a big double parking spot at the supermarket, & I don't do right hand turns if I can help it
The Dogmother
It has been really dark here today (car headlights needed), raining like a monsoon all day and periodic thunder and lightening. There are floods everywhere. Oh, and the flashing around my chimney stack appears to have gone - the attic room has water rolling down the chimney breast wall Really busy today so it doesn't really matter.
