One Man Banned
Ok - well it has been raining again today - our power went off at 0630 this morning and the water ran out last night It's not too bad for us as Joe rang me to tell me that the water was running out so I popped to Sainsbury's in Bristol and got 60 1.5L of water as Gloucester had sold out Absolute CHAOS here as Tesco's are getting the odd truck of bottled water that runs out in an hour and Tesco's have a queue to get into the store as they have problems with power etc So the likelihood of no water until at least Wednesday is not something we're looking forward to here, and we don't know how long the we'll be without power. We have plenty of food and water, and I'm sat in the car at the mo, with an inverter to run the laptop, the caravan is on the drive and that has a shower and everything we need, cooker etc. It's an odd holiday tho' being on the drive! We'll smile through it - there are people a lot worse off than we are A xx
Prongs
There's a big lorry with flashing lights parked outside our Somerfields, that got all flooded out, it's dreadful!
Cinnamon
Looks like Andrews hens will be living the high life & drinking Evian then I hope all is well Andrew. They are evaquating the village down from me as the Thames has burst its banks. I have never seen anything like it - the river is so high, fast & muddy that it just make me go all weak & trembly just looking at it (I am not a lover of water, unless its with Scotch)

Cate in NZ
Andrew, thinking of you with your holiday on the drive and bottled water. Great that you and Joe can smile about it, and I feel so sorry for all those in the chaos to get water and struggling without power. It's pretty grim isn't it Take care, and stay safe

Cinnamon
Worryingly we have just found out that our bit of the Thames won't reach its peak until later this afternoon. Its higher that I have ever seen it as it is! The girls Sea Cadet unit was flooded out & thats on the banks of the Thames in Henley.Apparantly it has never happened before. Its a nice day here today, so far Edited July 24, 2007 by Guest
Tina C
And we heard on the local news last night that its all going to head our way within the next few days. We are along the river from Bedford, which has already got floods, and its our turn next. No doubt the people of St Neots wil be stockpiling down at Tesco today. Hope you had a comfortable night Andrew and Joe (and anyone else affected)
One Man Banned
We've got electric again, the sun is shining and the water didn't reach us overnight. So it should hopefully be ok and we'll just have to do without water for about a week at least. We did get a plan together yesterday afternoon - the caravan was ready to go with some clothes and essentials, the laydees were evacuated from the Eglu and put in a large box on the dining table so if we had to run last night, it would only be a case of "grab 'n' go". It didn't come to that thankfully - but we were at least prepared. Been looking on the Environment Agency website this morning and the flood waters have reached higher than they show on their floodmaps. We're safe at least and I'm about to pop to into the caravan for a shower! Next dilema, we've got a 40ltr Aquaroll for the caravan that was filled before the water ran out. If we only use that for showers it should last 3-4 days - do you think it would be cheeky to fill that up from the bowsers I have bought all our drinking water so don't need to use the bottled water that's being handed out..... Thanks for all your good wishes and hope - it must have payed off and we're safe - and good luck to those near rivers yet to reach their peak. A xx

Cinnamon
You'd have thought so, wouldn't you The unit is right on the Riverbank though, & the Thames is just so high & so deep that they decided not to go ahead for safety reasons. That & the unit being under 18 inches of river water too I was relieved - I could do without 2 more pairs of shoes to try to dry out
One Man Banned
How are the water levels now for those at threat from the rising water? Hoping everyone is ok A xx
Cinnamon
Its peaking at about Midday here in Henley. Luckily I am far enough away & high enough up for it not to be a problem, but I know a lot of people who live on the River, so I am sure they will be taking precautions I am going to go & have a nose later.I might take my camera too. I do hope its all OK & it stays dry today. We are seeing an Shakespeare production tonight, & usually in July its lovely & warm & a great evening. I am wearing my Uggs & taking a blanket this year! Lesley
Water levels have dropped here - how are those of you with no water? Life becomes so difficult with no water, hope you are all managing. Sarah - I don't think you'll be the only one all wrapped up!
The Dogmother
Just spoken to our client in Oxford - the city centre is closed to all non-essential traffic and much of it is completely closed/flooded. He said that the water is higher than it has been over the last few days I haven't been down to that end of Banbury yet this week, but I understand that it's all back under control and they've begun the clean up. The sports centre is closed, they hope to re-open the parts above ground level next week (TBC) but the pool was under 4' of water (on top of the usual level that is) and won't be back open for some time. Rosie's summer camp has been relocated to a leisure centre just 500 yards from our house - so that's fine
Cinnamon
Things are looking pretty hairy in Sonning, which is about a mile from my village. These were taken at 10am, so things will be even worse by now. I am terrified of fast deep dark water, so it took all my nerve to go onto the bridge & take a look This is The French Horn today (poshest reasturant & Hotel in area) From where I was standing on the bridge you would normally see only a small sliver of river, & their beautiful gardens..................... Beyond that big tree on the right is Uri Gellers house, which looked flooded out to me.One of the guys from Abba lives down there too, so he will also be flooded. Here is the other side of the bridge I was standing on. See how the water is barely flowing under it.By now that will have backed up onto the road. The river was incredibly fast & high, so that is a lot of water to find another route.......scarey stuff! This is the spot Brian usually goes fishing every weekend,He actually stands under this bridge, so you can see how high it is!
