chicken bark
My lovely Frizzle Silkie has gone broody - yay! She is now sitting on some silkie hatching eggs (not mine some that I purchased). So fingers crossed she has some success. I've also got twitchy so the incubator is going on this week. Any one else 'twitchy'?
Gloss-Hen
what eggs are they? and also where did you get your eggs? I'm looking to hatch eggs. Soon!
chicken bark
She's on 6 white silkie eggs, 1 Porcelain Sabelpoot egg and a dud I put under her when I moved her to her broody house and then forgot to take it out and now don't want to bother her to get it out! I got them sort of off ebay. A lady in York was selling them and I arranged to go around and collect some spares she had. Collected a beautiful red silkie girl at the same time. Must post a photo of her. The eggs going in the incubator are another one of my Porcelains, an egg from the new Silkie girl (as she was in with a boy when I got her) and 6 mixed Poland eggs I got off someone on a Facebook forum. I really REALLY hope something hatches out of that lot.

Griffin
Fingers crossed! My broody hatched five bantam Frizzles outside on Christmas Eve. I think I'm the only person glad the winter has been so mild and is not hoping for frost I can't believe my chicks are almost three weeks old! Been enjoyable having chickens to look after this Winter rather than defrosting drinkers and digging them out every morning! Redwing - you are an exception
craftyhunnypie
Ooo good luck! My incubator never went into Winter retirement either! It hatched 3 showgirl chicks, we are adorable & I'm certain that I'll be hatching something else once these move out of the brooder! Probably more pekins / silkies as like the littlies. Redwing
The trouble with hatching eggs at this time of year is that fertility isnt great. give it about 6 weeks and you'll have far more choice
Griffin
Having said that though the eggs I hatched were Ebay eggs, through the post, and 6/6 were fertile One gave up at around 10 days but the rest made it to hatch.
chicken bark
Great result. Poland eggs should be arriving today. The incubator is set up and temperature is holding steady so fingers crossed.
Redwing
There are a few things that a breeder can do to increase the chances of getting fertile eggs in winter You'd like to think that people wouldn't sell eggs if they didn't think they were fertile and if they hadn't done a test hatch first but there are people out there who still sell eggs knowing that they will not hatch Griffin you got s good seller as did I with my red silkies but sadly not everyone will and a delay for six weeks or so should reduce the chances of a disappointment
Mum
Good luck I hatched last year with a broody Silkie it was great fun. Scared my neighbour half to death on hatching day because, as ever, I was up with the larks took a peak and there was the first chick staring out from under her surrogate. Squeals of delight from me and this coincided with my neighbour returning home from his morning jog. Well, I *had* to tell him - well anyone would have done I was so excited - poor bloke, I was so in-his-face boasting of my new chick he looked totally ! Trouble was, I forgot I was still in my nightie
chicken bark
That made me laugh Mum. I needed cheering up as my eggs didn't arrive today. Turns out them will now be posted tomorrow. I'm just sooo impatient. Tash - waiting another few weeks would be a good idea. Just somehow couldn't help it. Also got a few Sabelpoot eggs to put in so I can see if they are fertile although I suspect not.

Griffin
My chicks are saying rude words about the frost this morning, this isn't the kind of weather they've been used to!
