Ibson
We have had this cube for just over 2 months now and have so far been very impressed. We have been letting our two ex battery hens (Beryl and Barbara) out when we are at home or during the weekends, they have settled in well even with our 3 cats! However the lawn has seen better days so we have decided to smarten up their cube and make a few modifications allowing us to use a substrate. We have chosen wood chip for the substrate as we feel its hard wearing and reasonably cheap when bought in bulk. We didn't want the wood chip all over the patio so decided to make a wooden border and staple pond lining to the inside with multiple holes cut out for the wheels and small ones for drainage. So here are a few images:

hilda-and-evadne
hmm Im new to this forum, does anyone know the best way of uploading my images? A moderator will probably fix it for you. You have to select "Img" from the selection at the top of the message box and paste it in. But I put the URLs of your images into my browser, and it all looks very nice! Plum
It looks brilliant. You have to post quite a few times before you can upload images. It doesn't take long for them to add up Like your branch they'll love that.
Luvachicken
Like your branch they'll love that. I never saw the branch until I read your post Plum. We just had a silver birch pruned and I got 3 nice logs and a branch - now I know where to put it. Not sure where to put my logs though. Forgot to say how smart it all looks. Ibson
Thank you all for your comments I'm really happy with it, they don't seem quite as happy being locked up though. I'm now thinking of extending it with another run extension. Do you think 2 birds have enough room in this run during the week if I let them out on weekends? Redwing
The more space you can give them the better but the run as it stands is ok for two birds, general guideline is a minimum of 1sqm each which is what they currently have

Plum
and you'll be able to craft some more edging and put more branches. They will be ok with what they have
sparkysmum
They will love their cube, ex batt palace , but I'm sure they would appreciate some free range time when you can. Well done for rescuing them btw, Ex batts are sooooooooo special. Alli x

Ibson
I have just taken the plunge and bought a 1m run extension, it seems a bit expensive at £100 but I want to give these two chickens as much room as possible without wrecking the lawn. I will pop to B&Q with the wife tomorrow to get more wood and pond liner. I will take a few photos next weekend when it's all done
