The Dogmother
Now that the worst of the dust and building work is over, I am going to replace all my smoke/carbon monoxide alarms as they are mostly 15-20 years old (still work when I test them) and are bound to have been affected by all the dust. I currently have one of each on each floor but have also been looking at combined ones - anyone got any recommendations for either?
Ain't Nobody Here
I have separate ones but quite like the Fire Angel smoke alarms that fit into light sockets. They get charged whenever the light is on so no worries about flat batteries.
Lavenders_Blue
Try phoning your local Fire Station. They may be able to come out and do a free fire safety check and alarm fit for you, but at the very least they will be able to recommend the best alarm to fit in your home. I only know this because the Community Fire Safety Officer (unfortunately not an actual fireman ) came to visit the Stroke Group that I run yesterday and gave us lots of advice on smoke alarms and fire safety checks! The Dogmother
Thanks Lavenders_Blue... I live next door to a fireman and have had a fire safety assessment I just need to renew the alarms and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. Geoid
The fire angel carbon monoxide/fire alarms are rather good, as are the first alert ones. But any carbon monoxide detector is better than none. I had ones like these: When one day the spot in the middle turned black (evacuate the house), so they probably saved my life. The Dogmother
I used to have one of those Fred. I have both on all 3 floors as we have a woodburner and the chimney runs up through all the floors.
CatieB
Thanks Lavenders_Blue... I live next door to a fireman and have had a fire safety assessment I just need to renew the alarms and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. No no no DM you miss the point. I contacted my local station and to my house came a fire engine full of firemen. I cant say whether I noticed if they were hunky or not as they came in climbed ladders and then changed my alarms as I was too busy ensuring they made a good job

Lavenders_Blue
Shame my alarms are all wired into the mains... sigh.......
Lewis
Ours are all wired into the mains (at home and Uni house) too, had to be done when the loft was converted. They're linked, so if the one downstairs goes off they all go off so you hear it on the 4th floor and can evacuate Can you can Carbon Monoxide alarms that sound rather than just change colour? Don't think I'd notice the colour change! Remember our old Physucks teacher saying her family were all ill over one weekend at home, turned out they were slowly getting Carbon Monoxide poisoning! The Dogmother
Yes, my CO alarms all make a noise. I looked at getting them all hard wired into the mains when I was having all the building work done but I just couldn't afford it.
