Chortle Chook
As per Desert Island Discs . . . out of all the chook breeds and colours you have owned, if you had to rush to save one from the waves, which would you save? (i.e. which of the breeds you have owned, in all your chicken keeping time, have you enjoyed most?) I think I'd have to save my little cuckoo frizzle. Her colour is pretty, she is feisty, friendly, never cross, loves to be stroked and even patted and does not go broody but lays nice eggs. Here she is. But then I do adore my Chamois Poland - such a stunning colour and such a friendly little girl but eggs - nah
sadietoo
Oooooh that's too tough a choice for me.... because I really do love all my girls the same and would have to try and rescue them all....but if I was starting from scratch and knowing what I know now, I would definitely have Brahmas, again because they are just sooo...chunky ...and I'd definitely have Light Sussex again... I love dear little Attie my white orpie (and she is the only girl giving me any eggs at all at the moment,) but she is as mad as a box of frogs....so I probably wouldn't have an orpie again...but then again she is soo beautiful too...it's really difficult
jackian
It would have been my lovely Florry.. She was PTS in December but she was a fast moving top chick ,she was cool & calm and a leader .Loved being stroked , picked up and cuddled. We had an egg the second day we had her and every day after that..I do wish she had a rest Edited January 27, 2012 by Guest
Redwing
barred Wyandotte bantams (of course) To me they are the best of all worlds - the perfect chook

lindafw
I struggle with this as my littlest aracana isn't laying yet...but if she was she would be it..follows at heel, chats when picked up and hopefully blue eggs Gladys the buff sussex has been great...but she is sulking at the moment Love my big buff orp boy too...he is so butch and lush and kind and gentle with his girls....and as for the polands well they just make me laugh. I really appreciate my hybrids but they don't have much personality yet
mollyripkim
Predictable I know as ever but it would have to be silkies, in particular my little Henrietta - she is probably the worse specimen of a silkie (not very fluffy and a small topknot) but she makes up for her small statue with bags of character, always announces eggs very very loudly and is just generally in the thick of things but likes a cuddle, usually tries to eat any jewellery I have on or try to peck my teeth! Chortle Chook
my little Henrietta - . . . usually tries to eat any jewellery I have on or try to peck my teeth! I have a little silkie who does that too. She just fastens herself to my little bangle. jackian I think your Florry was very pretty with her white tail ends. I hope you soon have another one that is just as lovely.
