Mum
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is away on a long-distance filming trip and has not yet been told what happened. Great! So he gets to hear about it via irresponsible reporting Talk about Double Whammy! Poor bloke
bluekarin
I'm pretty sure he would have been told by now seeing as it happened last night, but I agree, what a horrible way to find out
Mum
Possibly bluekarin, but, if the reporter was "in the know" enough to report HFW was away and hadn't yet been told what had happened, I think it's a bit naughty to report it. Bit like when someone dies and names are not published until the N.O.K are informed. This is going to be a huge shock for Hugh, I'm sure. BizzyMomma
Oh that's awful..... and Yes I agree re this being made general knowledge ahead of HFW finding out.... bad times....

Guest
Aww no! BUt at least no one was hurt and that's not where he lives! x
Leicester_H
Terrible - I'm surprised the fire could get such a grip and do so much damage. I would have assumed that a professional kitchen establishment would have a sophisicated sprinkler system etc. Pleased no one was hurt. The Dogmother
Sad news indeed - a friend works in kitchen fire suppression systems, I'll ask if he knows what happened.
Charlottechicken
Oh my! Looks like it was the cookery school and not the house though? Glad no-one was hurt.
Lavenders_Blue
What awful news. Really hope HFW was told about this before hearing about it in the press
Cinnamon
What awful news. Really hope HFW was told about this before hearing about it in the press I am almost certain he would have been informed right away. He has a huge team, plus a family, plus if he is filming,it will be for channel 4 as normal. Someone will have been able to get hold of someone to pass the news on. Good things often come from what might initially seem a disaster. I have now doubts that the lovely Hugh will bounce back & make the very best of what is a bad situation Maybe a Seven Brides style barn raising.......... Space Chick
I read this on twitter this morning. OH and I have been on a course at RCHQ and were in the barn... Didn't notice any sprinkler system. It only has a small kitchen, a dining room and a classroom in the barn. Sad news
Jenny Smedley
HFW not told yet - he is away filming on a boat for "Fish Fight" programme & has limited communications. It's intended to inform him this evening via satalite comms. At least no one injured & not where he lives. Fire started in newer barn conversion part where cookery courses held. Hope he is insured! Cinnamon
He posted on Facebook about it earlier this afternoon. At least if he had limited comms,he couldn't find out about it via the media
Jenny Smedley
Hope it was family member that managed to get thru to him & not press.
bluekarin
From BBC news site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-16971421 Took the staff 36 hours to contact him. They must have been so worried he'd have found out via the web.
