Think I might be watching something else that night, maybe he appeals to the Eastern European voters, a bit like Norman Wisdom who's popular somewhere like Ukraine I think. Gave me a smile anyway. I amazed my parents by saying his name, out of the blue, one day when I was about 4 I think. I had no idea who he was, I just loved the name. I'm not usually interested in Eurovision at all,not even from a mock-it point of view, but I'll watch this year if Engelbert is representing us. At least he (along with many of the crooners of his generation) really can sing. Good on him, and good on whoever thought of him in the first place. Go Engy. I remember my grandma telling me that Engelbert was booed off the stage of my grandad's miners club way back in the days before he changed his name! Whenever I hear one of his songs (which is not often) it takes me straight back to staying at my Nan's flat in Combe Martin, I can picture my parents playing cards with my Nan and old Enge playing on the record machine, that and cold tar soap too which she always had.
