Parsley
Can anyone advise me how I can send a payment abroad? It is probably very straight forward but I've never had to do this before. I have been invited to be an honorary member of the German Thuringian Club but want to pay my way - and get a club badge Normally I write a cheque for my subs and memberships but this is obviously in Euros. (I have also been invited to their breed show in November to see all of the beautiful colours they have over there - very excited ) Wendy
Lavenders_Blue
Phone/pop into your bank and ask them what info you need. When I used to work in a bank it was an IBAN (International Bank Account Number), name and address of bank you are sending the money to and name and address of person you are sending money to. That was a few years ago now, so the process may have been simplified by now, so probably best to double check. There is usually a bank charge for sending money abroad too. A bank should also be able to issue you with an international banker's draft (like a cheque) too, which may be cheaper. Again check the cost with your bank. Cinnamon
Do you have a Paypal account? You can make payments in other currencies with that.
rachel19
Depending on which bank you use it should be very straight forward. I do this online with Natwest through the usual 'payments' section - there is a heading of 'international payments' and that guides you through it. I'm sure many banks are the same. If you do it online or go into a branch you will need the name and address of the bank you are sending the money to, along with their IBAN and BIC numbers which they should be able to easily give you.You will also be required to pay a fee for this and that will depend on how quickly you want the money to get there - between £10 and £30 is pretty normal. Hope this helps!
snowberry
I had a lovely email off my Aunty Ojermaflip from Nigeria. Never met or knew of her before but she wanted £10,000 with the promise of big returns when she got over here! I gave her my bank account details & it must have gone through ok as I've not heard back
Parsley
Thank you for all your help. I do have a Paypal account so will investigate that route. I don't want to end up paying three times the amount in fees to the actual amount I want to send Maybe I will just put the amount in Euros in an envelope and send it
Chucky Mama
I'd use Paypal. If it is a personal payment when you go through the payment process, click on the 'Personal' tab rather than the 'Purchase' tab. This way your recipient's payment is not subject to Paypal fees
ohcarolina
I seem to recall Martin 'money tips' Lewis saying that Paypal was a good & reasonable priced way to deal with one off payments.
