Help! I have an interview!

Recommended Posts

Hi

I hope it goes really well for you. I have much more experience of sitting on the other sides of interviews than of actually having them, but the things I really like are people who are cheerful, optomistic and keen and smile a lot. I don't mind people who don't know stuff so long as they don't try to b******t me - it doesn't work. If you don't know an answer, say so but appear keen to learn.

If you get a question that is difficult, try to do the politician thing; turn the question round so that you work it into telling your interviewer the stuff you do know and the stuff you want to tell them - sort of 'maybe I haven't got the exact experience in so and so field, but I'm keen to learn and will work at that - and what I do have that would be useful to you is .....'

Its worth spending time, like before a radio or TV interview, in working out the three main things you want to get across to them. Think of the interview as an opportunity for you to tell them stuff about why you are right for the job - an interviewer will love you if you make his or her job easy by telling them stuff so that they don't have to spend time dragging it out of you by asking questions.

I'm sorry if that sounds pretentious and patronising - it isn't meant to be at all. I just hope that you get on really really well. Let us know how it goes.

All the best

The very best of luck for your interview.

You have had lots of excellent advice especially from Rob and Richard but remember an interview is a two way affair and you must make sure that the job will come up to your expectations.

Also if you are the best person for the job (as I am sure your are) the interviewers will be as keen to convince you to join them as you are to convince them that you are the best person for the job.

Well I think it went ok...It's a really nice place, not at all manicured lawns which I had feared. There's orchards, veg beds, lake side, wooded bits, bedding, lovely place. Well if I get it I get it, if I don't it's not meant to be, and I'll go do a horticulture course at the local college. They said they'll let me know by the end of the week, so I'll keep you posted!

Glad you thought it went ok and the attitude about if you get the job is great 8)

If the door opens - wonderful, if it doesnt then there will be another one with your name over it just waiting for you! 8)

Do let us know how you get along.

Ok, got a phonecall this morning - they've narrowed it down to between me and some other person! I've got to go meet them again on monday and meet the master gardener, who saw the other interviewees but not me, so basically it's gonna be down to this guy -eek!!

Good luck Lucy.

Whatever the result is you obviously did extremely well to get narrowed down to 2, I really truly hope that you get the job, but even if you don't you've just got to pat yourself on the back for doing so well. You must have interviewed brilliantly :D:D:D

I'll be crossing my fingers for you on Monday
