Cheeky Chooky
I recently had the opportunity to add 2 Lavender Quail Barbu D'Anvers and 2 Columbian Barbu De Watermael to my gang...and oh boy they are such little cuties I already have Pip and Squeak, my Quail Barbu D'Anvers who are adorable little girls and these 4 are just the same. They come running to me every time I go in the run They've been accepted straight away and it feels like they've been here forever The Lavender girls were kept in a small rabbit hutch in a shed, in semi darkness so we felt like we were rescuing them and they are so enjoying the sunlight and space of the WIR, bless 'em

mollyripkim
They are sooo cute and obviously have lovely friendly temperaments as well. I wonder if bantams are easier to integrate as mine did as well with little trouble.
Cheeky Chooky
Awww thank you guys for saying such lovely things about all of my girls I wonder if bantams are easier to integrate as mine did as well with little trouble.I'm convinced they're easier...I've had such hassle in times gone by with hybrid chickens when introducing newbies
Griffin
Awwwww so cute I've got Quail Barbu D'Anvers & Blue Quail Barbu D'Anvers due in two weeks time. Tiger my Silkie is going to be their mum. One of my Brahmas is contemplating broodiness and I was thinking maybe she could rear some too but I'm worried she'll squish the tinies She probably needs more robust chicks

Chortle Chook
Those are really pretty girls. You have such a varied collection now, which breed of yours is your favourite. Is it the Belgians? I think you should get a Belgian cockerel next, if only to call him 'Poirot'
sparkysmum
Hi Cheeky, really have to ask you a couple of things about your ladies, if you dont mind 1) do any of them fly if so, do you wing clip 2) Intros. They all seem to get along so well without all the long intros most of us have had to do. Is this just the way they are or a bit of luck too Please excuse me asking this but I'm simply wondering if " bantam only" is the way to go My little flock is content and happy but I always feel bad about cutting back on their free range time during the growing season. Cheeky Chooky
Hi Alli I don't let my girls out to FR so to answer your first question, yes they all fly to some extent...especially the D'Anvers who fly up onto my shoulders ...and even the Silkies manage to get up onto the branches I have in the WIR and no, I don't clip their wings as there's no need. Re intros...as I said, in my experience, bantams are much better at it The Silkies were the only ones who I kept apart for a week because they were so timid but the rest have all got on with it without any argy bargy really I love watching them interact with each other when newbies arrive. They eyeball each other, the newbie backs down and walks off and the established girl looks satisfied that the newbie knows just how important she is
