bekibutton
Hi everyone! My mother's getting some new ex-batts and we're trying to think of names for them. I thought it'd be good to take a topical approach and name them after Olympics-related people/places/sports/equipment etc. 'Jessica Hennis', anyone? Does anyone have any suggestions, please? Willow
Love Jessica Hennis An olympic theme would be interesting just remember they live for many years so the names need to make sense long term. I've been a bit boring with mostly flower names - Lily, Daisy, Jasmine (renamed to Yasmine after a cousin when I realised I preferred the name Yasmine), however our Miss Pepperpot was always Pepper. And we have 7 and Jane (shortened from Janeway) we adopted from a previous star trek fan forum member who had to rehome her chickens. In my view joky names like nuggets, tikka would wear thin after a while.
craftyhunnypie
Jessica (Ennis), Zara (Phillips) Or maybe Olympic events? Miss Long Jump, Miss Shotput, Miss Hurdle Gurdle, Miss Super Sprint etc etc Personally I'd have High Jump & Leg it. Emma.x
bekibutton
I thought of some more, but I think they might be a bit naff Eti'hen'ne Stott Mo Feather ( ) Victoria 'Hen'dleton 'Bock' Adlington I agree with the no-food-related-names thing. We're all vegetarian in my family anyway so it would just be totally unsuitable! The best names I came up with for my hens (when I still had them) were Weem (named after the little broken spaceship thing in Batteries Not Included, because I had to assist her out of her egg), Damien (female, born 6/6/6), and Florence (after Florence and the Machine, because she was a red chicken and Florence Welch has red hair)

Pearls007
This made me laugh I am sure they were named "Sweet as Cherry" Pie "Golden" Nugget Noodle "Doodle" because of the way she potters round the run!

Ain't Nobody Here
Ushen Bolt? Sorry . I usually name each new group starting with the same letter (except when ES had a hand in it - I always get mixed up with that lot ). We've had Milly, Molly, Maisie, Poppy, Penny, Jess, Steph, Beth , and now Lulu and Layla.
Gertie
Love the creativity! I named my ex batts after their incarceration & freedom - Plucky, Squash & Liberty. My non batteries are named (not terribly imaginatively) after flowers - iris, Flora, Briar. What about fruits & veg? I could see a hen called Peaches, Pepper etc! redcharlie43
As Ex-batts are normally ginger ninja's, how about ginger olympians? You could have Annie (Annie Last), Ruth (Greg Rutherford) and Wiggo (Bradley Wiggins) or even Danni (Daniel Purvis). I know not all of these are girls but I had a chicken called Agamemnon as she was such a bully! Enjoy the naughty girls you get. They will be lovely whatever you call them
newcountrygirl
Dont let grandkids name them! - We just got three new chicks to go with our three older girls. The three older ones are Madonna(Madge to her friends) , Gladys Pugh (cos she looks like the character in Hi-de-hi, and Matilda. Not too bad - but my three and a half year old grandson insisted on naming the three newbies - hence we have Henny Penny, Chicken Little and Holly Shiftwell!!! I feel a right dork shouting them in the garden.
jimnpaula
When I got my ex batts I went for 4 to 6... when I opened my carriers I discovered that an extra one had been added and we had 7. Looked at my selection of legrings and realised that there are 7 colours in a rainbow: started off down names that means colours tangent... right, red... ruby red. Aha moment - gemstones! The gemstones theme carried on for two sets of girls, although the skyline didn't follow and got called Skye. When I got the ex free rangers I was going to do cocktails/alcoholic drinks - I fancied shouting "Tequila" down the garden, but couldn't decide on other ones (Too long, too difficult to say quickly). I ended up with soft drinks instead (Cidona comes from Ireland btw) and the girls have the appropriate coloured legrings. P
dancing cloud
First ex-batts, I allowed the niece and nephews to be involved (not necessarily a good plan) - Daisy, Dandelion, Clover, Chance, Hope and Joy Next ones, I chose things they'd never have seen before - Sun, Moon, Sky Two nephews helped with the next batch, so song names L and R - Lola, Lucy, Lady, Rose, Roxanne and Rhiannon (who always and only responded to "Little Chicken" ) Christmas rescues had to be Holly, Berry and Mistletoe (though they were briefly in danger of being Jolly, Merry and Downright Tiddly ) And last weekend's newbies (my first ever "proper" chickens) are Myrtle and Marguerite. They were going to be Twilight and Starlight to reflect their colouring, but Twilight looked like a Myrtle, so I stuck with a flowery theme for Marguerite. Whatever they're called, they'll be very lucky ladies and will love having their freedom !
