Groovychook
Oh my word. I have just lifted a cushion on the sofa to plump it, and found the most mahoosive spider lurking underneath I managed to escort it outside and due to the enormous size of it, actually heard it land on the ground... it was a biggy- perhaps the biggest I have ever seen! I am now off to find some toe enclosing footwear and am going to spend a very anxious evening on full alert for any more intruders. Spider season is upon us! It's times like this that I wish I lived in a minimalist house devoid of clutter, with white carpets so I could see the enemy approaching!! Lesley
Oooh, an anxious evening ahead I've only just recovered from a spider encounter the other day, a big dangly spider was legging it across my keyboard towards me.....thank goodness the wheels on my office chair actually decided to work!!! It dropped off the front of the desk , just missing my knee.....I stamped on it We've had them coming in all summer with the wet weather and now the heat is bringing them in Just off to get the dogs to check the cushions for me
snowberry
I hate spider season (August 1st) You'd think I was holding an open house party for the rather large blighters! In this part of Cornwall, we get them bigger than my hand Daughter found a HUGE bright yellow one in the garden the other day. I will post a pic if I can find it! Eldest saw it from the first floor window...
ClaireG
My Gran swears by conkers. She dots them about her flat and says she has no spiders.
snowberry
Someone told me about the conker thing the other day. However, my daughters' dog is so stupid that he'd probably try to eat them!
Groovychook
I've never heard about the conker thing - definitely worth a try! ... so glad I live in North Cornwall- sounds like you have monstrous beasties down your end Snowberry! SarahJo
Conkers - with or without the spiky covering We used to have massive spiders in our Scottish house - you could hear them run across the carpet - our last dog was superb at catching and eating them
chickric
I've heard about the conkers thing as well but since having our bamboo flooring haven't seen a single spider. Wonder if it's the same principal or just coincidence, although a rather expensive solution.
chickencam
We have seen some huge ones this year too. I hate it when you go outdoors or into the greenhouse at this time of year first thing and you have to check for new webs and their occupants the last thing you want is one of those big stripy ones in your hair. Alis girls
watched the cat put her paw thro a web yesterday outside and eat the spider. Probably trying to tell me she needs more meat in her diet. I will rent her out for a small fee.
Lavenders_Blue
*Shudder* I hate spider season. I've already had a few monsters in the house this summer - one of them in the bedroom. I didn't sleep well that night! Hubby just throws them out of the window which is no good, because they just come straight back in again If he's not at home I put all the attachments on the hoover to make the hose as long as possible, then they get sucked The dog is no use at all - she just chases them round until they run underneath something to hide, then I spend the rest of the day on high alert in case it jumps out on me. The worst spider incident ever was taking a dress out of my wardrobe to find a mahooosive spider hiding in it - thankfully this was before I put the dress on, but still very scary! I now always have to give clothes a shake when I take them out of the wardrobe in case a spider is lurking in there somewhere
Cinnamon
Stop it. Just stop it. I have spent all day living in fear of hairy legged things rushing at me because of this thread One more person metions the S word & I shall start a Christmas thread. Don't say I didn't warn you....................
Looney
I don't mind spiders, not even the mahoosive house spiders they make me jump sometimes though when they appear out of nowhere (oh and I've just ordered a Christmas related item this morning )

Groovychook
My worst spider incident was finding a huge spider under my pillow when I woke up one morning. I have been scarred for life by it. I never go to bed without checking under pillows now I'm probably going to have to take on board Lavenders_Blue's clothes shaking ritual now too. Goodness knows what lurks at the back of the wardrobe (sorry Cinnamon)

donald
I have thrown 3 out in last two days I cant bear to kill them as I hope they are eating all those flies. They are good too. But one galloped across the kitchen half hour ago and I was ready to catch the tarantula before Cocker spaniel got to it but it disappeared under my cooker. One in utility sink this morning, went to freezer and one watching me on wall next to door. I hate them. One in lounge and one on my towel (they run upwards) so the towel basket is out of bounds as we are waiting to capture that one. It does seem a bad year all of a sudden? I have to tell myself its all in my mind and to be very brave. I can pick up certain sizes but not the monsters. There is a limit.

I should set up a business as a spider catcher. Only run of the mill ones though, no escaped tarantulas, I'd have to draw the line somewhere! Alis girls
For rent - fat tabby cat who eats webs and spiders. Will travel. There was a brute on back door this am - opened door and web fell apart and spider fell on kitchen floor - I disposed of it and cat ate web.
