You are exempt from driving for 6 weeks after the op (for insurance reasons) although I was back behind the wheel after 4 weeks so make sure that you have a lift when you need it. I will have to cook up some meals though, as they would happily eat out for 6 weeks if given an excuse. Mum and Dad live in the next illage so I have the lift covered. I had to ban my folks from coming up to help out... they are wonderful but with the best will in the world I could do without my Italian mother fussing around me; if I want help I will ask! Willow Posted January 11, 2013 Share Posted January 11, 2013 24th April feels like a long way away so try not to worry about it (at least until easter ) I can't believe how neat and unnoticeable my scar is And actually I quite like it it's a reminder that before the op I was so incapacitated and now I'm not! So unlike areas where a scar would matter I don't think it's worth going keyhole if the only reason is to avoid a scar. The length of my scar suggests the surgeon created looooots of space for her to work in But to echo Clare make sure your family know you really do need to take things easy for a few weeks after for good healing. I have to admit that that advice is given in hindsight... I was the one who needed to be told to take it easy Phil had to get stern with me when I over-did it and nearly collapsed. Fortunately I was just too weak to do much so I wasn't tempted to overdo things the first couple of weeks. I felt well physically - that constant pain had gone But I was exhausted. Doing the stairs a couple of times a day to change my location was about my limit for a couple of weeks. I had to go open up the school opposite (key holder) for a w/e event and I couldn't remember the alarm code or how to do it I was really quite cross with OH for agreeing we'd do it without thinking and he'd gone off to the shops without giving it another thought. My scar is long but neat in appearance and in an odd sort of way I kinda like it . Off work for 6 weeks apparently and they said I will be signed off for that time. I already have a c sec and appendix scar so I am not bothered about the scar... Well a little bit but not much. Afraid you may need to be off longer than that 6 weeks before I could move around much and I was off work for 3 months and still recovering for 2-3 months after that. Everyone is different but don't commit to being back to normal too quickly, give yourself time. We went to visit in the afternoon and she'd just popped out of the ward for a walk Other women that had had it done at the same time were all lying in bed. We went and checked with the nurses that they'd actually done the operation, we couldn't believe it. She was like that for a couple of days and in my opinion overdid it and then it knocked her for six. I think even if you feel really good its a good idea to follow the advice of the doctors. Was off for 16 weeks inc school hols (work in a school) - when I went back it was no problem at all, but a teacher who had same op at same time, was more active and out and about more than me during recovery, returned to work & was then signed off again, so take it very slowly.
