craftyhunnypie
I am surprised that there has not been a thred on missing April. If I am out of place mods, then please remove! This story has really touched the hearts of all in our village, also in Aberystwyth & surrounding towns & villages. everyone is truly saddened & sickened by what has taken place, very close to all our homes. It is believed 'he' was in our village shop very early on the Tuesday! I haven't heard any more, as to confirm this. This has scared all of us & we just pray & wish that the police would search our areas of natural beauty to us, but what could be horror scenes to poor April. We have Teifi pools nearby - very remote lakes in the mountains. We have Cors Caron peat bog, just down the road. We also have a vast amount of craggy mountain terrain, moorland & woodland / forestry. It makes me shudder to think about it. I pray she is found, so that she can be lad to rest. Olly
In fact, there have been some comments on this sad story on the 'Thread of Little Facts & Things'. There's no problem with having a thread on this, but can I remind everyone that this is a family-friendly forum and no matter how strongly people feel on this subject we will moderate abusive language. Can we also bear in mind that the man accused of this crime has not been tried and convicted. It is a terribly sad story, and I hope for her parents' sake that her body is found soon. LisaP
Emma, I am glad you have posted about this awful situation, afraid I was unsure as to whether to do so We have been following the news closely and just hope her poor family are given some form of closure soon Lisa P
The Dogmother
I think that form members have steered clear of starting a thread about April (I certainly have) as they know the sort of emotions that would surface. I think we all feel the same about it, and less said the better. Edited October 9, 2012 by Guest
Chucky Mama
It is a difficult and perhaps unsuitable topic to air on a forum but I can understand your need to 'talk' about it Emma. A young woman went missing in Swindon last year and it was very close to me as our community searched hard to bring her home. My thoughts are with everyone close to this and I can sympathise with how you are feeling Emma. Our Swindon girl was bought back to her family and the community still hurts as there was no happy ending despite the show of local strength and positivity
soapdragon
Apparently the chap has been charged with murder (as well as abduction) but I don't understand how this can be without either very strong evidence or an admission of guilt, neither of which have been reported? sadietoo
We too have been following the news closely My OH worked near Machynlleth many moons ago and we had a great time there when our own daughter was about April's age. My heart goes out to her parents. Am I correct to assume that if the accused was at the Parent's Evening that he too has children at the school? If so what an awful ordeal for them too....(and I'm not assuming he is guilty here - just having your Daddy accused of this sort of crime must be devastating) . So many innocent victims in a crime like this

freddie
It can be a grim world we now live in. I feel sometimes I am over protective esp of my 13 yr old leggy blonde daughter, but when something occurs, then maybe not. No one should be put in the position this family are in, ever. There needs to be a sense of shame brought back into society, and punishments to fit crimes. There are currently no deterrents, really. My opinion. Sorry if anyone offended. Plum
No-one would be offended that you feel strongly it's just easy to get carried away expressing your emotions, mine are unprintable. What can ever be a strong enough deterrent except the death penalty and I don't support that.
freddie
Currently, there is a group of "life term" prisoners, guilty of hideous crimes, being allowed to appeal against their "life" sentences. Why? And what about the people they murdered, and their families. I wonder how they feel. There is no "appeal " for them. There is one victim support group. There are loads(over 40) criminal support groups. Until the punishment system is upheld, properly, then crime will continue to increase. I do not believe in Death penalty, but nor do I believe in all the soft touch prison facilities we, the tax payers lay on for criminals. Private cells, individual toilets, computer access.. What a joke.
soapdragon
Hear, hear Freddie! Totally agree, I think it starts with the lack of discipline at home/school as many children seem to think its just fine to behave badly as they do not get 'pulled up' for it and that just escalates. Steps down from soapbox!
craftyhunnypie
Thank you everyone. I don't wish to stir emotions, neither do I want to see abusive language on here. We can all keep that & our thoughts in our minds. It wasn't very nice in Aberystwyth the other day - the mood of everyone is subdued & sad. It's the same in my village too. Both are normally jolly, happy places to be, but everyones thoughts are of April, her family & friends & of course, where she may be. I don't normally get affected by things, but this has really tugged at the heart strings & I don't even have children. Macchynlleth is a pretty & bustling town. We have been there quite often & had lamb & leek curry in one of the cafes & gone in the shops. Every town, city & village has its 'not very nice people'. So I hope that eventually, the people of Macchynlleth & surrounding areas will be able to move on from this tragic ordeal. Emma.x
Alis girls
Hugs to you Emma - I hope they have the right person - so many times they havent (Rachel Nikel case) and I hope the parents get closure. Thoughts with the McCanns too, everytime another case comes up it must be like a knife going in. I suppose they have to "hope" wasnt there a case recently abroad where a woman abducted yrs back was found alive? I can remember a case yrs ago (I was in my teens) Gennete Tate - another child about my age disappearing - used to read the newspaper daily to see if she had been found. Its so sad and so horrid.
