Has anyone sold a car on eBay?

Recommended Posts

I have a car to sell but its got a few issues, I've advertised it cheaply but no sniff of interest

I'm wondering whether its worth trying to sell it on ebay

I'm worried that people will win it, come to collect it then quibble

Has anyone ever sold their car this way and did it work out ok?

chap arrived with a briefcase of money

I'd LOVE a briefcase of money.... It's always SOOOOOOO cool when you see them on films :P

We haven't Tasha, but a work colleague of mine sold hers with no issues. I think as long as you are upfront about the issues (which I know you will be) then the potential buyers will have confidence in dealing with you.

Good luck xx

Yes, many times, both cars & motorbikes.

Make sure that you say in the listing to come & see it before you bid.

Also put that it advertised elsewhere & therefore the auction may end early,in case someone comes to see it & makes you an offer there & then.

You will find that with vehicles it is mainly local people who will be searching in their area,so that they can come & view it forst.

Make sure you have a plan for payment - including how to get cash to a bank. Friends had that problem... Stupidly ended up getting into a strangers car with a lot of cash to get to the bank... They can't believe they were quite that stupid!!

Also, even when cash is banked, the bank can still comeback and refuse to credit your account should the cash be counterfeit.

We did and had a few problems, the biggest of which was the winning bidder failed to pay up :x However after listing it a couple more times and it finally sold for the money we wanted to a lovely family :D The advice given on here is very good and I'd just be cautious. Hope it goes smoothly for you :D

OH sold his very quickly via AutoTrader. Ad went in on a Thurs evening and by Sat lunch it was sold to the first viewer, she had a 100 mile round trip so we guessed she was serious. She haggled a bit over a dent and he dropped the price, but only to a bottom line figure which he'd decided on in the cold light of day beforehand. She paid there and then with an electronic transfer, the money was in his account immediately :D
