atsw
Hello All, My Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks are now 2 days old. It's been so sunny and warm in the garden this afternoon that I decided to let Biscuit and her three chicks have a quick roam around on the grass (inside a guinea pig cage, of course!). They seem to love it, and Mum got straight on to teaching them how to peck grass and look for food. Andrew

atsw
One week from hatching, and the chicks are growing up fast! They have all now left the Guinea Pig hutch they hatched in, and have moved into their sectioned off area of the WIR. As you can see, feather are already appearing on their wing tips, which means that very soon they will loose their cute 'fluffy' look . There's a little slide show of them from hatch till now which you can view here. Andrew

atsw
The chicks are 3 weeks old today and growing incredibly fast. I let them out into the garden this morning, and they really enjoyed the grass and a chance to have a dust bath and sunbath. The rest of the flock were free ranging at the time and seemed quite happy to mix with Mum and her chicks (more to my surprise, Mum was happy to let that happen too!). I've added these and some other pictures to my slideshow, which you can view here Andrew
atsw
The three Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks have made it to 5 weeks old today. In that short time they have grown so much that they are now almost the same size as their adopted Mummy . However, I think it's still going to be a few eeks before I know if I've got boys or girls . Any thoughts/predictions anyone? As before, I've added these pictures to my 'hatch till now' slideshow, which you can view here. chuckmum6
I would say the one in the second picture looking at us, looks like a boy to me, but maybe it's just the view point.
PoachedPlease
What a great set of photos. I will tune in next week as they say. Xx
atsw
What a great set of photos. I will tune in next week as they say. .... and here we are a week later . The chicks are now 6 weeks old, I've moved them onto Grower Pellets and Mum is getting ready to leave them to their own devices. Red Chick Blue Chick Purple Chick Anyone care to make some guesses about boys/girls? Andrew
Chicken deficient
For me, red looks like a girl and purple looks like a boy. Can't really see blue's face well enough Are they lf and nearly as big as mum already?!
atsw
OK, so we've got to week 8 and Mum has flown the nest and left the chicks to it (well, they are all quite a bit bigger than her now!). Must admit, I keep changing my mind on the mix of boys and girls, but I'm pretty sure Blue is a girl and Red might be a boy. Can't decide about Purple yet. Any thoughts anyone? chuckmum6
Lovely birds. Blue and Purple look like boys, I think red might be too, but hard to tell from the picture. Their wattles and combs are well developed for 8 weeks and the tail feather do seem to have longer saddle feathers coming, also they have big strong boy feet. However, I hope I'm wrong about red! Lewis
I hate to say it but I think you have 2 if not 3 boys Red and Blue look like they've been boys for a few weeks and Purple may be headed that way... Hope I'm wrong though!
auntielizzie
How are the chicks? Do you know now if you have any girls or did they all turn out to be boys? Would love to see new pics!
atsw
The 'chicks' are now enormous! They tower over the rest of my flock. Because of their size I decided to fully integrate them with the others a week ago, even though they were still only 15 weeks old. That went well, although all three are currently at the bottom of the 'pecking order' despite their size! They are great looking birds with fantastic colouring, but I genuinely still have no idea if any are boys or girls! I'll try to take some new pictures of them next weekend so you can see just how much they have grown. They will be four months old at that point in time.
