Giving eggs away

Recommended Posts

We decided to give 2 of our neighbours some eggs earlier this week......I was really shocked and surprised earlier to recieve the egg box back with a thankyou card in it :) Then to my AMAZEMENT I just had a knock on the door from the people next door she said how lovely the eggs were and gave us the box back with a bag of potatoes that they have grown :)

Was so nice to get a response like this from them, looks like we have found a way into the hearts of the people next door :) Its really brightened my day......

I swap mine for wine or cake

Well, my mate's partner likes them scrambled on Sunday's, and she knows what I like (actually, the cake's for HER really as I make my own anyway).

Sometimes she gives me £1.50 for them, though.

When I've got my lottie I'll have a customer, too.

I give my neighbour eggs ...I felt a bit guilty about where I had sited the Eglu quite near to their property ....anyhow they are delighted with the eggs and she gives me veg that they have grown. Today in exchange for 6 eggs I received 2 courgettes and some Mange tout.

She is also quite happy for me to get more chickens and put the hen house near to their garden again. :D [gosh the eggs must be good to soften people up like this.]

We have so far given eggs away to neighbours and friends and received nothing but thanks and comments along the lines of "Can't believe how different and creamy they taste!"

Not received anything in return for them (not that we expect it!) but may consider asking for swaps, etc once the novelty has worn off :D

I work for a department store, who shall remain nameless,. ( didnt Twiggy look good in the adverts),...:lol:

Anyway, i take my eggs in for a few of the girls there, and have now spread to one of the girls in the shop next door,

I just ask them to bring me in an egg box and i will refill it and give it back, . somedays i have more boxes than eggs, but they are all willing to wait in return,

They offer to pay, but i wont take anymoney for them, its just so nice to be able to give them away,

I get given bits and pieces in return, which is nice, but not expected, but isnt it nice to see their faces when they tell you how lovely they were and much better than shop bought ones. x :D

Well I like to give them to my Mum's friend Hannah at work. She really likes them too, and we usually end up with cake in return!

Mind you...Now we just have the two chickens we son't have many eggs to give away. That might change when I get my way and get two new chickens to go with them though!

Well we end up with more than we can eat, and its such a shame to waste them, i dont bake very often, so i just like to see peoples faces when they tell me how much better they are, especially when they want more. or their husbands notice the difference when they cook them without saying where they are from.

I havent tried a shop bought one in years now so i cant tell the difference anymore but obviously the difference is there.

We have been out with the family for a picnic today and everyone was tlking about our eggs.......My sisters partner said he had never seen yolks like ours.......in his words "the ones from the shop as so pale and dull, but yours are bright orangy yellow and they taste great"......

Is kind of embarassing when people start going on how great they are

I think you're all to kind giving eggs away.

I'm with you Martin to a degree. Its very nice to give eggs away, and I do give them to folk sometimes, but when the bills for the chicken feed come in it makes me think! I've got some new chickens who will be POL in another 12 weeks or so, and I'm thinking of selling some of the eggs.

I seem to remember from another thread somewhere that the going rate for a half dozen was £1.50 or so.

Martin, somehow getting my neighbours to plea to never buy battery eggs wouldn't work. No matter how many boxes of our eggs we give them they then end up back at Tesco buying the ones from caged hens.

They do say that the eggs we give them are a lot nicer though, so at least that's a start.
