Vet bills versus first day covers.

Recommended Posts

Yet another vet bill for me.

Hubby asked how much it was today - £36 - I told him.

Then he asked me what I get out of having a chicken, so I told him.

He then asked what fun do I get out of them for how much they are costing me, so I told him,

Then I asked him how much fun does he get out of a first day cover when it comes and how much does it cost him all the time. He has hundreds so over time I bet he has spent loads.

Different hobbies cost different amounts and part of the responsibility of having pets is making them better when they are ill. I'm sure there are more expensive hobbies.

I can tell you, driving a motorcycle is muuuuuch more expensive... :wall:

But a hobby people find more normal then having chickens.

Every time I'm having it serviced I pray to the motorcycle god to be kind to my bank account...

So far it hasn't worked yet.

Oddly Hubby and I were having this conversation at the weekend. When we move house (if it ever blooming happens) I am having a posh dogs doo dahs WIR on a concrete base, raised above ground level with a soak away/drain, also having a power and water point fitted near to the run (or whatever plumber and sparky can come up with) .

I said to hubby isn't it a ridiculous amount of money to spend on my chickens and he immediately replied that the chickens and garden were my hobby so it would be worth the money to get it right :clap::clap: .

Hubby has a season ticket to Derby County football :wall: every year so this year he also went to Wembley so really my new chicken run will just be 3-4 years season tickets or a new bicycle :wall: for Hubby.

Bet when he looks back on his life and all he remembers is collecting First Day Covers he'll realise he has wasted it!!! Derby County football is another waste of money and time. When Brian Clough left it was all over.

Been most places and done them. Chickens (or any other 'pet' livestock) are very different and can't be compared to material things. So the financial cost is totally irrelevant. Very difficult to explain to the unenlightened.

You will always find people struggle with, what to them, is unconventional Mrs B. Part of having chickens is the stigma that often goes with it. Times are definitely changing though.

I look on my girls as my hobby, expensive I know but no more than most other hobbies. Hubby is due to retire next year and is already thinking bees, train sets and budgies!

I think it's really important to have something that we enjoy doing, love pottering around with my girls.

Made me laugh mrs b, we are always having the conversation of what we will do when we move house (if ever).

I think chickens are well worth every penny spent.

My husband loves his football and sport so has a sky subscription .I of course watch it but could take or leave it. I also always argue that chickens are good for your health and well being . Who else would I talk to with my ramblings when the world cup is on ? I will be sat sat outside in the nice weather with a glass of wine while he is sat in doors getting all het up over the football, rugby , cricket  ..No contest .

The Sky subscription balances out the chicken outlay and we have eggs.

First day covers don't cluck "hello" to you in the morning, come running full of hope every time you open the door just in case you have treats, brighten up the garden on the most miserable winter's day, or lay eggs with wonderful golden yolks that make the very best cakes :D

You have summed it up exactly :D

And I thought fishing is pretty expensive too, hubby doesn't fish though, but I have seen some very expensive rods.
