I've managed to get an omlet classic from ebay. Now that I know the red mite is in the felt roof of my wooden coop, shall I burn it, or just smash it up and take it to the dump

I would have a ritual burning of the said cop.....I wouldn't want to put anything in my car that had redmite

Is it totally unsalvagable?When we got our wooden coop,the man who built it said not to put felt on as it harbours mite.We had some last year which I think I eradicated.When I get back from holiday and we get a dry stretch I intend to hose it down and seal it with polyurethane varnish,which is supposed to help by reducing crevices and keep it for a spare.You never know when you might need a hen hotel.

As I have mentioned before somewhere. On a very hot sunny day the coop can be completely wrapped in clear polythene and left in the sun to cook. That will kill all the red mite. We had suitable weather last week and more to come. The felt can be taken off. Thing to avoid is getting any red mite into the air or onto the ground because they will spread all over. So if you are going to take it to the tip it will need sealing completely to stop them falling out in transit anyway.

If you lived near me I would take it off your hands wouldn't worry me it has redmite ive been using ficam w now its expensive but one spray job done instant death for redmites and their eggs cant praise this enough leanne

Also morehens has got me bad I currently have 14 chooks. Deffo got no room for any more
