Hello, now the Eglu Go Up has been around for a while and people have had time to really try it out I was wondering what people thought about the Go Up vs a Cube for someone with a small number of chickens? I have two hybids in a cube and will definately not be adding to the flock. Should I downsize to a Go Up and release some equity or stick to the cube? If I was starting out again which would people advise I go for? I love the cube but it is mighty big for two chucks. The only reason I didn't go for a Go or Classic was that I like them going upstairs to bed (the Go Up came out about a month after I got the cube - typical!)

I'm really happy with my Up. I have three bantams in the Go and the coop is more than big enough for the three of them.

The run should be big enough for two standard sized chickens, although I would advice either to free range or buy the extension.

 

I don't know if it is wise to sell your cube and get an Up. I think it depends on the price you can still get for your cube and if it ways up against having to buy a whole new coop.

Having looked after a friend's chickens in an Up recently (we have both cube and eglu classics) I would say stick with the cube. I didn't like it at all - the nest box was useless, the droppings tray wasn't great, and the water holder, while perfect as a chicken foot spa, was useless as a means of supplying the birds with clean water throughout the day [though perhaps her hens were unusual in their apparent love of regular paddling!]. I also don't like the design feature of the Go whereby to access eggs or check on sleeping hens, you have to open up the back of the house - with flighty hens it could be challenging! The only plus, as far as I was concerned, was that it was up - but I'd take a regular eglu classic on the ground over a Go up or down, any day!

I have not seen the Go Up but I don't like the Go. I would stick with the Cube if I was you.

Just to speak up for the go up...! I had a classic for 3 years for my 5 pekin bantams which was fine, but I found the constant bending a nuisance as I have a back problem. The body of the classic is also quite heavy to remove when you want to do the complete clean. I also found it was a pain having to clear out the nest manually with a trowel rather than being able to tip it out.

I bought a go up which has addressed all these problems. 10 minutes to clean out, no bending. Can tip nest material straight into bucket and replace. (Hens all choose to lay their eggs there, no problem.) Don't find any problem with accessing nest area. Haven't had any problem with feeder or water container either. Have them on a stand in walk-in run area, so don't have to bend. Also, slugs don't seem to get into the drinker as they did with the glug.

I've now bought a second go up and five more pekin bantams (in preference to getting a cube, which would take up more room in my set-up than 2 go-ups one behind the other). Hens all very happy free-ranging all day and going upstairs to bed at night.

For reference. I love my Go. it has great features. I have it in a walk in run, but the coop itself is fine. I keep mine open at night and currently have 3 hybrids, but I think you could easily have 4.

I would stick with the cube.

 

I bought a Go just after they came out and never really got along with it - we also have a cube, a classic and a rablu which I love.

 

The Go now sits in the Walk in Run and is just occasionally used as a nesting box whereas the others are all used all the time
