Samhain blessings...

Recommended Posts

... to all of you.

I thought that I had a quiet evening in with the dogs, in my PJs, doing the ironing and avoiding answering the door. Yes, boring I know, but it's the end of a hard week.

I got in from walking the dogs to find that Rosie and an assortment of her friends had decided that my place was THE place for getting ready for their party  I have just seen off a ghastly collection of ghosties, ghoulies, witches, vampires, ninja turtles and (inexplicably) a Disney Princess  My dining room floor is littered with stage make-up, newspaper covered in fake blood, false eyelashes, vampire teeth (which didn't attach), an iPhone which keeps pinging (no idea who it belongs to) and a pair of size 7 'stripper shoes'

Nothing changes then... I remember doing more or less the same at that age, except that none of my friends looked like a spaghetti-thin supermodel; no idea what that one was going as, phantom stripper perhaps?

What have you been up to this evening?

Been draping spiderweb stuff around my front door, looking for some scaring music to play on my iPad, sticking a fake bloody hand on the door, making little bags of candy (eating some of it myself... ), dressing up in a nice big victorian cape and waiting for the kids to arrive!

Neighbours told me to expect around 30 kids... Turned out to be more like 60! had a bit of candy crisis! But it was great all the same!

Did nothing at all actually, apart from a couple of glasses of wine! OH and I took the boys to Greenwich today to the Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark. Had a great day with fab weather but foul traffic...took 3.25 hours to get home to Oxfordshire!

Boys ate a late supper and then had an early night after all the walking! Same for us, I think! Very few t or t 's about but we always batten down the hatches and don't give in to blackmail anyway

Thanks for the good wishes, DM...Likewise!

Samhain Blessings to you all.

OH and I are Pagans so although we decorate the house we don't put stuff outside as we don't want Trick or Treaters. Saying that we had some darlings banging on our kitchen windows earlier and scaring the dog. They even left the gate wide open. Not impressed. Unfortunately my OH wants to tell people the true meaning of Samhain and won't accept they won't listen if they don't want to.

Thankfully he's gone to bed with a bad back. I can sit and watch Alice Cooper in peace lol

got in at 4pm , went to Costco, thought it might be quietish, wrong !

Whilst food went in the oven , hovered the house, had a good clean up, put first wash load in, then ate tea , left pots in sink, filled my cauldron with loads of sweets and goodies, answered the door dozens of times before six, even showed a neighbour how my new boiler went in , gas pipe up front of house through the loft and down the rear of house into kitchen, he wasn't impressed when I told him how much , but he needs a new boiler....he cheered up when I said I had saved £300. in gas and £69 in electric this year, but the warmth had gone from the landing due to no emersion heater , but great cupboard for all the quilts, towels and linens instead.

cleaned out the lizard , new sand too !

answered the door loads more, carted the toilet rolls , kitchen rolls, etc up to the loft, saw things out of place so had a quick tidy up, answered the door lots more Where are All these children coming from ?

Did two more loads of washing and tossed towels into drier .

Attacked the kitchen in earnest, went for a shower and sat down with a cup of tea at 9pm to have 2 yorkies look at me very expectantly, so donned coat and shoes and walked them round the cul-de-sac, managed to watch a bit of TV and now am on my way to bed....Exhausted !!!!!

Walk along the seafront, watched the waves & admired the sheer beauty of them. Lit pumpkin that I carved yesterday & Had lots of lit candles on the fireplace, lit incense, drank tea, de - flead our little cat, started my ' New Year' diary, watched the Pendle Witch Trial. Listened to the rain & wind lashing on the window (earlier), then sat & reflected & remembered our ancestors. We would have had a fire in our ire pit, had it been dry earlier. Blessed Samhain to you all too.

I spent the whole day stressed out trying to locate nystatin for my hen who has sour crop!! How hard could it be? I got A prescription from the dentist then the first pharmacy didn't stock it, the second one was closed for lunch, the third would not give it as it was on a dental prescription, back to the second who didn't stock it....called about a zillion vets, none of whom stocked it, in the end had to drive to my chook vet, ask her to write a private prescription then drive another zillion miles to a pharmacy who had it, he wasn't happy with the quantities so spent the next 45 minutes trying to get through to another vets for a second opinion, said vet " oh I won't be able to comment on the quantities without having seen the hen!)

Took from 10.30 am to 5pm to finally get it.....

and to you too. YS and 2 mates went out dressed - well bizarrely,no idea what they were  Not happy as my son borrowed my kohl pencil to draw his beard and blunted it  I dont know if I can find a sharpener wide enough to sharpen it - my history with sharp knives isnt good so might get OH to have a go. They munched their way thro a bag of Halloween haribos and then disappeared into the night. OH and I made popcorn watched Corrie and enjoyed the peace till bang bang bang on the door and they were back  Lost it a bit this year - did make some Halloween cakes but no pumpkin - I think its due to my subdued mood - ES away at uni and probs at work - but I am rather witch like at present with my dark moods etc

Out last night with friend and the OH's and we passed a posh house complete with huge skulls and big beefy African bouncers. On the way back from restaurant we were walking (to walk off a big meal and Baklava  nom nom) and 2 guys shot out of a house dressed for a party. One had a brilliant painted face and the other I think was a Tony Blair mask - big nose and chin and inane grin (sorry Tony) - my friend and I pretended to shriek with terror as 50 somethings do and one said to my friend " you're coming with us little girl" cue for more giggling and shrieking from friend who like me had had too much vino - they then ran off into the night - " you've pulled but I dont think much of yours" I said to my friend - cue for more hysterics - our husbands just  - yes I know we should grow up and our kids would be mortified but a girls gotta have fun sometimes aint she? :shameonu:
