Poplars
We currently have two chickens but one is not very well and won't get better , we have a ordinary and we wanted to get two more chickens to keep the other one company when Betty passes away. How many chickens can you fit in an eglu and which types of chickens would you recomend (we are looking for some cooler (more exotic) chickens than we already have) do you know anywhere that supplies different chickens near Banbury? Thankyou, any advice appreciated The Edwards family
Snowy
Poor Betty, I do hope she does recover for you! I think 4 is the maximum you could comfortably fit in an eglu (providing you also extend the run). Although I had all seven chickens in one the other night (and Lesley's had ten) but I don't think that's really recommended! I don't know of anywhere near Banbury. Warwickshire Rare Breeds is near Rugby - they often have some unusual hybrids and pure breeds in.

beach chick
in terms of space, I dont think its the eglu that's the question, but the size of the run. I have 4, in eglu and standard run - but they freerange from anywhere between 7 and 8.30 am til dusk. I reckon 8 could easily sleep in there... but I wouldnt even keep 2 in the standard run (personal thing, i'd rather they have space to roam and all that and we are lucky not to have foxes much here.) moochoo
So sorry to hear about Betty's poor health. The only place that I can think of near Banbury is Jude at Cotswold Chickens. http://www.cotswoldchickens.co.uk/ She is very helpful and her chickens are fully vaccinated and have a months guarantee. Poplars
We don't just keep them in the run! They have a large area of bark chippings that used to be a play area for me and my brother, and they are allowed out into the garden for most of the weekend
The Dogmother
Hi again, you're welcome to come and see my motley crew of bantams.. all 10 of them! I've discoveerd two new breeders near Newbury (bantams only though). Try looking in the back pages of Practical Poultry mag - theer are loads of breeders listed in there for the Oxon area. I've got loads of back issues, so you're welcome to come and borrow one.

Poplars
Thanks again for everyone giving advice! Just to let you know I think that my eglu is a mark 1, can I still fit four chickens into it???
Poplars
We got another Ginger Nut Ranger from Omlet yesterday... she looks so tiny compared to the old chicken... they were kept seperate last night and then we slipped the new one in with Hetty... (the old one) how long do we have to keep them seperated, and how many chickens can we fit in a mark 1 eglu (with extra space(not just in the run))?? Thanks
