Chickabee
All of my chicks that hatched last summer have now gone. 1 young cockerel was rehomed. 1 died a day after birth. 1 died after all my girls got the sniffles, she seemed to get better then suddenly went downhill quickly and died. The last one died today. I don't know what was wrong with her I'm not hatching again
mullethunter
I'm really sorry to hear that Chickabee. Perhaps it was something genetic causing them to be not as strong and resilient to stresses as they should be.
gavclojak
Oh goodness poor you, ibthink you have just been unlucky, pure and simple.
mollyripkim
Poor you, that's so sad, maybe there was something genetic or just very bad luck.

Luvachicken
That's very sad Chickabee. I think as others have said it must have been genetic. Sending hugs xxx

redsunset
Aww, I'd put that one down to just one of those things and bad luck. I'm sure it could happen to anyone. Out of the four Brahma chicks I bought, one died after a week, one at a few months and one girl turned out to be a big boy. It is disheartening but don't give up if you'd partly love to hatch again? Chickabee
I did enjoy the hatching. Although I was very novice and kept posting for advice. It was all down to Dazzle really, she was a fantastic mum in the end, despite being a tiny Pekin frizzle (I love her so much). Maybe I will have another go some time. I will definitely have enough broodys
redsunset
yes, give it another go..... my only hatch was behind my back and in the height of a hot week in the summer so all doodles survived, just luck and a very fussy mum who stayed with them for months! It's just luck of the draw I guess?

Beantree
Don't be put off Chickabee, Our first hatch was a complete disaster because of the Orpington eggs we bought. They were inbred and weak with the first one being born with curled toes, 5 on one foot and 6 on the other! I agree that the problem you had was probably genetic, the result from breeding with directly related young birds even pullets perhaps? We had great success with our own hatching eggs and a friend did well with some she was given. In fact we started off with 7 of her chicks. Minnie&Moose
Really sorry Chickabee - that sounds very disheartening and very unlucky. It was our first year of hatching as well - I we managed to get 5/7 cockerels
