Couperwife
I found a website called www.morsbags.com they are trying to promote using fabric bags instead of plastic carriers and giving an easy to use pattern to help with this. I'm going to make a load and use them to put in christmas and birthday presents instead of buying the paper ones, I'm also seriously considering making bath bombs too, so little time, so much to do I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who is planning for christmas
Charlottechicken
Do we have one of those stores in Birmingham Claire? We did have Emma, in the Pallisades, I think it was on a Christmas lease as it has gone now and been replaced by a discount book shop . Charlottechicken
If anyone is making hampers up for Christmas, or just needs a lot of little gifts to hand out, I bought a pack of fudge mix ..here.. Cheating I know, but it works out cheap. The stuff is available as a franchise too, if you fancy your own sweet shop (apparantly it is sold at shows and fairs already made up), so it can't be bad, and because it is sugar based there is an almost indefinate shelf life on it, although the bags do have use by dates because they have to. It smells lovely, but I haven't made one up yet. I intend to make up little cellophane bags of it

Couperwife
that is a really good idea, only 2 or 3 minutes to make??? I just need to find out if any family members like fudge, as I could be in danger of eating it all myself

Charlottechicken
And I just made up a batch! It took the time I usually waste waiting for the computer to wake up to make It is now setting in the little tray provided, next to a nice loaf of bread the breadmaker just finished for me, my kitchen smells divine! It tastes nice warm and runny so it looks promising. The instructions say you can use it as a sauce too, just by adding extra water when you make it. You can also use it as a cake topping, just pour it over whilst warm, and it will set. It is gluten free. There are other kits available, I chose that particular one because it was the cheapest with the most bags of mix (not that I like to get my money's worth or anything ) They also do coconut ice too. If anyone wants to make their own fudge, there is a recipe from the company 'Burnt Sugar' in this months Country Kitchen mag.

Helen&Lee
What a fab thread There is a Hawkins Bazaar in Worcester ( obviously depends on what side of Brum you are on as to how near it is) What about iced Gingerbread houses - I saw them in the Christmas mags last year and ran out of time to make them - I suppose the downside to them would be you wouldn't be able to do them to far in advance.... Lovely ideas so far though especially Damson Gin Helen

ubereglu
I once made christmas stockings for my friends. They're quite easy-I did them on the sewing machine and then filled them with chocolate coins and baubles. I'm not sure what to do at the minute though, I'm tempted to decorate some photo frames and give them to friend's this year.
bronze
Its a fabulous idea. When you give fruit vodka as gifts do you take the fruit out before you give it then?

craftyhunnypie
I'm attempting a pair of mittens at this very moment. They might get finished in time for Xmas! he he I just fancied something a bit more challenging than scarves. I could knit up some toys, but I never know what do do with them afterwards! Mr Beans Teddy has been put on hold as I thought I'd got brown wool & I haven't. I'll get some in the week. Emma.x
Christian
Hi Bronze, I didnt take the fruit out for the sloe gin, but with the raspberry vodka, the fruit will go to mush, so i will strain it through muslin and pour into nice bottles.
