Unwelcome visitors in the Glug

Recommended Posts

A few minutes ago I Was in the garden and as I passed the hen run I checked to ensure that they had enough feed and water for the morning, at this time if year I leave the Eglu door open all night, the extended run is fully protected by wire. I was horrified to see the Glug "stuffed", for want of a better word, with slugs. Yuk! 8 or 10 of them. Difficult to see how they got in, the Glug is on a wooden frame clear of the side netting and the floor is just dust. There were no visible slime trails anywhere.

First a dead baby bird in the Eglu now these. I need a security system!

We had that problem when we moved and systematically killed every one we saw, having tried throwing them a fair distance only for them to return. Must have killed a couple of hundred last year and only found a few this year as a result. You could do with a hedgehog visiting your garden.

You have these special ceramic slug traps, that you fill with beer. Often in the shape of a snail

I gave up on the Grub, with slugs getting in and also food going moldy (even when I take it in every night). I now use a bird feeder, called the Feedr. Chickens prefer eating from it, instead of the Grug. Luckily found no snails so far in the Glug.

But I agree with Beantree. I have disposed of loads of snails last year and it pays of big time. I just chucked them in the green wheelie bin.
