mullethunter
Any of you who read my posts about yolk in the Eglu earlier in the week will know there's been something odd going on with Bernadette lately. Now something else odd has happened... I've just cracked one of her eggs into a bowl (for honey and almond cantuccini) and it seemed to have anomaly yolk and white and also a load of extra yolk not in a membrane. I now realise this is the second oneivehad like this as I fried one like it last week but thought I'd broken it. Here's a photo. It's hard to see, but there are two eggs here, you can see both complete yolks, but you can also just about see a load of 'loose' yolk too. Anyone ever had this or have any idea what's going on with poor little Bern?
Beantree
Never had anything like that I can recall Mullethunter, but like you would have assumed I'd broken a yolk if I had. As you know the egg laying process is a complicated one and can get severely disrupted by illness or going broody. We've had two lay poor eggs after a bout of broodiness this year but both seem to be a lot better now. Perhaps she is starting the moult and that has upset her system? mullethunter
Thanks Beantree. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with her egg laying system at the best of times so you may be right in that the extra stresses (they were also wormed last week) on her body have disrupted things even more. Purplemaniacs
Could it have been a double yolker and you burst the second yolk as you cracked it? Chrissie
mullethunter
It could have been yes. It was the beginning of a few problems that Bernie seems to be having now (at least I'm pretty sure it's her). There've been a couple of instances of egg in the poo tray with no shell or membrane at all, then today I found a soft shell in the tray and a sticky mess in the next box. They have good pellets (Marriages), grit, and the only treat they really get is a handful of mixed corn before bed, so I don't really know what I can do. I think she's just not very good at eggs
Cat tails
Ginger is the same. Occasional softy, periods with no eggs and any real eggs are tiny! Never took the whole egg business very seriously.
