Chickabee
That my white star could have started off laying normal colour eggs and now changed to white eggs. I'm really baffled by this
sjp
it depends on what goes into the make up of a white star assuming that there's a brown or tinted egg layer in the mix then yes it's possible as brown eggs do get lighter as the season goes on but I think I read some were that a white star is made up of 2 strains of leghorn in which case in theory you shouldn't get brown or tinted eggs there. my gold legbar lays lightly tinted eggs early in the season but after a few eggs lays white ones but she has got a brown egg layer in her genes
Chickabee
Mm I think a bit of skulduggery might have gone on, as I got a "bale egg" laying legs bar cross from the same place. She only lays normal colour eggs
The Dogmother
As sjp has said, this can happen, and unless you are buying a pure breed, you can't always be sure. If you want a certain colour of eggs, then you are best to wait until they are laying so that yoh can buy in confidence. I have two lovely Blue Angels.... a white leghorn x araucana, and they lay beautiful, pale turquoise eggs.
Lewis
White Stars are a Leghorn and so they should never lay brown eggs, I don't think any breeder would cross anything with them which could affect the egg colour. A Legbar cross on the other hand could lay brown eggs, though I'd question the breeding.
